In reply to Tim Durham: The Sleazy Republican Dealmaker Whose Offices Were Raided by the FBI Today
I thought he looked familiar. I saw that CNBC episode. The highlight was when he explained that the tire on his Bugatti costs $20,000 to replace. It's only money, particularly when it's other people's money. Dennis Kozwolcki's (sp?) ungrateful bitch of a wife left him after he went to jail. I think it was the $3 million birthday party he threw for her that got him into hot water to begin with. I was reading an article in Newsweek yesterday where the author proposed raising the highest tax bracket back to 70%. Personally I'd like to see a special exemption for bankers. They would get to pay 98% of anything they make over $500,000. Yes, yes, I know it would be horrible when all the dick bankers move to Dubai and London, and as a society we can no longer afford $20,000 Bugatti tires, and $5000 shower curtains, but somehow we'll all just have to soldier on.

@ParahSalin: during Eisenhower, wasn't it above even 70%? These people really need to get a grip, pay up or get out.

@Helio: As I remember it, the top rate was 70% up until Reagan got elected. He popularized the "trickle down theory" of economics, which was that if you cut taxes on the rich you will increase tax revenues. Interestingly, a guy named Bruce Bartlett, who is a conservative economist, was one of the people who popularized this theory. I believe he has since come to realize that this was in fact "voodoo" economics. His book Imposter is a good read. It's all about what a huge fuck up Dubya was. He has a newer book out, where I think he pretty much renounces Reagonomics altogether. He's one of the few Republicans I've seen who actually admitted their economic ideas were pretty much based on magic, voodoo and wishful thinking. The only person still pushing tax cuts is Sarah Palin. Yes, we'll close that huge budget deficit by cutting taxes. Sigh, please don't let these lunatics run anything for the next 30 years.

Oh, Gawker, you so made my day. I used to own two stores in Indianapolis not far from this douchebag's house. All of the divorcees in the neighborhood were hot for this asshole. And all of the local guys were envious of his business success but no one ever believed him to be a crook (I did).

I'm going to go dig into a big plate of delicious schadenfreude. YUM!

The girl in pic #7 was a total upgrade from the girl in pic #2. In in pic #6, who exactly is the "leering-mouth breather"? Is it him or the girls? I say all three.

He seems somewhat less douchy than other douches in his position.

He really does have impeccable taste, from what I can gather from these photos. His house is big but not flashy, his car collection is classy beyond words and his girlfriend is a pretty brunette, and not some overinflated bottle-blond.

@Atilla the Bun: No, seriously. That car collection is absolutely amazing. Douchebags traditionally go out and buy awful new Bentleys and Lambos and put huge rims on them... you need to have a certain degree of sophistication to opt for antique Dusenbergs.

Are you required to have a fat, bloated head in order to be a Republican, or does being a Republican *give* you a fat, bloated head?

    ah yes, here it is...

    (11) We support fat, bloated heads. Long and lean, or "Obama-style," heads will be shunned due to lack of hot air and probable existence of intelligence.

I seemed to remember that as soon as Paris went on Larry King, post-jail, the thunderstorm blew over and the
media backed off of her. I think the public saw a little glimmer of her humanity and not just a spoiled, dopey, racist heiress. I'm not defending her; just making an observation.

    Or Larry is magic.

Britney used to be a pretty good singer, until she ruined her voice and now uses vocal sweetening on recordings and lip-syncs in public.

Taylor Swift was never a very good singer, so she uses vocal sweetening on recordings, but proudly sings off-key in public.

Which means we've entered an era of concurrent fake-itude and realism, and no one under 25 cares what the difference is.

@TedSez: Really? Britney Spears had talent? I've never heard her even hit a real note. Her voice is, at best, very thin.

Taylor Swift really should have been kept around Nashville as a very talented songwriter, but because she's so lovely, they decided to make her a star. Ladyfriend can't sing, I'll give you that.
