While I always avoid Manhattan's sickeningly with-it, fashion assholes and their haunts, I gotta stand up for the Jane on this one.

People who move to ANY location bellow 14th street and expect quiet at any time of day or night are out of their million dollar-shoe-box-fucking-minds.

@Id_Molotov: it was fine as a hotel--even an sro, but not a d-bag spot to fill the d-bag void the beatrice left. between this and would-be carries lining up for lardcakes, this largely residential area has been overcome by losers--just overspill from the meatpacking district where no one in their right mind would live.

Ah, bars. Soon no drinking and no talking. We can all go to the library for a good time.

a good idea: have no line outside of hotel to get into the non-club. also a good idea, close your windows at night. cant we all get along?

These scans originated with the yuppie neighbours' PR guy (who has an interest in making the Jane look like it's fucked). Surely worth disclosing in the post, Mr. Moylan?

For the sake of those who don't live in NYC, but who like to make pretend and read Gawker even though we don't get all the references and stay in the Jane's sweet sweet $99-per-night closets when we visit town for some IRL pretend-making, can you clarify - Are you predicting the death of the whole enterprise, or just the bar?

Being an uptight person myself, I'm not saying anything about about who's being uptight about this, but things like fixing broken emergency lights, where the fire extinguishers are hung, and operating with the current licenses are pretty important components of running a safe public place where lots of people gather. You've never been in an emergency in a public building? Lucky you.

"Operating with the current licenses" is now a license violation?

Well the "stick up the ass" neighbors weren't happy when it was a "flop house" NOW they aren't happy that the Jane wants to become trendy.

When the Yuppies moved in and the gays moved out of the West Village its death knell began.

@freewil: Er...they aren't happy with the noise and general commotion late into the night. Although the bums from the flophouse were more appetizing than the trendoids.

@TheBusinessGuy: Right but the problem I gather is that the Jane people lied when they got all their permits about what kind of place it would be. If they'd attempted to control the situation and made nice with the neighbors instead of giving them the middle finger, maybe they wouldn't be in a death spiral.

@freewil: When was that? As I remember it, the yuppies moved in during the 80's. So you're talking, what? 25 years ago...a quarter century?

@Edward Lionheart: True, but velvet rope clubs are all about arrogance, so what the hotel people have done isn't surprising at all.
