any historian or economist will tell you that the New Deal did NOT end the depression.
the depression was chugging along at full speed until the U.S. entered world war ii.
it was the war economy that (1) ended the depression and (2) created the middle class (which is a post WWII phenomenon which is fleeting at best.
if obama reenacts the new deal he'll just extend the depression

But, Perkins pointed out, people don't eat "in the long run;" they need something to eat every day. And there were places in the country where people were broke and literally starving.
Did the New Deal bring an immediate end to the Depression? No. But it kept people alive, gave them a sense of hope, and protected our democracy from assault by extremist demagogues. And that is worth something.

Of course it's worth something. I don't know about other people, but I certainly remember my high school American history teacher saying that the FDR's policies did not in and of themselves end the Depression, the production demands of WW II did. But in the interim, people had something to cling to.

[The level of scrutiny is so different it's hard to compare then and now.]
Re the Obama clip with the superimposed Google IQ test challenge, glad to see that IQ tests are continuing to be misused, even if Obama did score high.
But does anyone ever remember hearing the IQ score of any other president? I read that the record of JFK's SAT scores was destroyed.

Thanks, I stand corrected. The article does state that high IQ results aren't relevant to success in office.
