That's not half-bad form. Kick is waaay too high for anything but a photo-op, but whatever. People love the high kick, even though it has almost no real application. Gotta give him credit for keeping the supporting heel near the ground and tucking that elbow in nice and tight. You don't often see white dudes with good form, esp. from that era.
Also, that's probably not Karate. Looks like TKD, and would make more sense given the geography and the height of that kick. Then again, the gi looks like the Japanese kind. #bernardkerik

Agreed, nice form for a show-off photo kick. But his toes not being pulled back -- driving me nuts ^_^
I think it's definitely TKD. The gi is what would have been worn then, because the new (ugly) v-neck TKD uniforms come from the WTF (haha) to differentiate TKD from karate. It's a shame that the new uniform is associated with TKD, because I think they are basically the polo shirts of the martial arts world. And I mean that with all possible fashion disdain. (ITF still uses a nice-lookin' gi, to the best of my knowledge).
Back in 1975, the WTF was just getting started and probably didn't have its yucky v-neck uniforms yet.

Ironically, I can't tuck my thumb for knifehand. Please defend my photos after I'm hauled away for corruption. ^_^ #bernardkerik

Aw, now I'm all nostalgic and I'll have to visit the old watering hole next time I'm in NYC. #mcsorleysoldalehouse
