    The store in question would probably be considered our corner bodega — convenience store with lots of canned goods, smokes, snacks and the occasional produce.

    Well, these free meals are not really "free". They are improper double taxpayer subsidies: unless Google is adding the value of them to their employess' W-2 forms, you and I pay for them. That is, Google duducts the cost from their taxes, and their employees pay no tax on the benefit.
