    would like to remind those of you who have not lived in this city before 1990 to consider that it is not possible to wear filp-flops and talk, loudly, on your I-phones, on New York City streets that are strewn with glass and patrolled by a zombie horde of homeless criminals who have nothing to do all day but look out for stupid flip-flop wearing, cell phone jabbering idiots to steal from. The conditions that make your existence in this city possible are quickly evaporating. Those conditions would be, low crime rates, economic opportunity, a functioning MTA (that is a mass transit system where people aren't killed weekly). Otherwise please return to the safety of your suburban malls where is is possible to wear flip-flops, talk on your I-phones and not worry about getting robbed, clobbered or cutting your feet on glass. Otherwise please realize that the battle between the "bottom feeders" and normal society (that you take for granted) is an important one.

    @Paddington: Many of the people hanging out at Penn Station and Port Authority at 2:00 a.m. need serious mental health care. If Skyler were a true hero, then he would stop arresting those who offend his delicate sensibilities and, for instance, find the squeegee men some legitimate work.

    Here is how are previous Mayors would have handled this:


    Koch would have squeegeed the squeegee guy while the Mayor berated him for being so "vile and filthy... and hot".


    Guiliani, on the other hand, would have conducted an undercover investigation to arrest the quality of life destroying squeegee guys. Of course, the investigation would have -- coincidentally -- required the Mayor to dress in drag for a period of weeks.
