I find the most disturbing moment of this is when Courtney Friel says something along the lines of "There's camera's everywhere, and it's unfortunate that it seems like your only options are to keep your clothes on or stay in shape.".... Blank stare. WTF?
Why would he be interested in this video? There's no loofah and there's no dirty talking. I thought that was what O'Reilly's all about, dirty talk. The video have no audio.
@Paul.B.Dodd: If the sultry sound of Bill-o's moralizing over Peeping Tom videos of a girl whose ass he would have slapped three days ago doesn't do it for you, there's no helping you, my friend.
@lionboy: Yeah, there' nothing at all suspicious about the fact that he chose two hot blondes with whom to have a serious discussion about this topic. I love all of the direct shots of Courtney Friel radiating toward the camera. I found that compelling.
So let me get this straight. You criticize Bill O'Reilly (and I'm with you all the way) for showing the video and then defending that decision under the pretense of "reporting." You hammer him for doing that, and in the very same post, you SHOW THE VIDEO of Bill O'Reilly showing the video that you're criticizing him for showing.
I mean, do you realize what you just did there? You essentially just did the exact same thing O'Reilly did.
@ValinDascylus: I don't know if by responding to this I'm approving your comment or not, but the problem isn't showing the video - it's O'Reilly's unstoppable hypocrisy. Gawker's not pretending to be America's moral authority.
@ChickyOnly: Well, at this point we don't know what Gawker is pretending to be, but in this particular post, they certainly seem to be having their cake and eating it too—criticizing Big Bill and getting to use the semi-salacious footage at the same time.
For further ridiculous "This is deplorable, let me see the video already" hand wringing, check Deadspin. They're covering this self justification/absolution like pig on skin.
@ValinDascylus: You may have a point, but I definitely think it's extra ironic that O'Reilly showed it on his show, and he's an author of several books in which he claims that sex, drugs, rock and roll and the Internet are all killing the foundations of American culture and plotting to overthrow God.
@ValinDascylus: You know, I never actually thought of it in that when I was doing the post, but I can sort of see your point. However, it's just not the same thing. You're comparing tomatoes and potatoes.
@ValinDascylus: Dude, no one is showing anything here. You had to click on it to see it, knowing before clicking what are you about to see. TV, on the other hand, works differently, and it just shows shit to you.
Furthermore, when you go to Gawker, you know that you can expect to see celebrity gossipy type of crap, including paparazzi type of shots. But, when you tune to a TV show that promotes conservative values, you sure as hell don't expect to see voyeur videos on it. (Right? Wink, wink!)
This is why - Bill showing this video is news worthy, and Gawker having it available for you is not.
@Jasper Reardon: Gawker and Bill O'Reilly are two different beasts. Bill O'Reilly is criticizing the fact that the video exist and that people are playing it WHILE PLAYING THE VIDEO. Gawker has criticized the video being made, but the only thing they've said about watching it is not to search for it because a lot of people are tying it to viruses. Any a way, by posting this, they are really doing a public service (though an uncensored version wouldn't be out of order.)
BO: Let's goose the rating with Erin Andrews footage.
BO: Somebody go grab a couple of pretty blonds. They don't need any expertise, just give them some wire-copy for background and I'll pontificate, while the audience visualizes them brushing their hair.
Okay, Bill O'Reilly is despicable, but Courtney Friel? "I guess you just have to pretty much either keep your clothes on or stay in shape." What the hell was that all about? What does a person's body shape have to do with anything?
@Claire Buoyant: I think this was pretty much the most terrible part of the video. Also Big Bill not realising the hypocrisy of criticizing websites for posting a video he just showed.
