    @daveyjonesisdead: Wrong post. You'll need to go back down the hall towards President Obama (you'll see him charming a fat turkey), and look for the first post on your left. Be careful - Martha Steward is helping Jack Torrance look for his son; it would be best to smile politely and scurry past.

    Great post, Pareene. Keep shining a light on the deceit and obfuscation.

    Sadly, it seems that Fox "News" (and the Republicans in general) are the Jedi masters of self-fulfilling prophecy.

    I suspect that the Republicans didn't want to attend an event that didn't feature copious amounts of MEAT.

    Though I must say I found the state dinner menu a lot like food porn, except with some spelling errors.

    This took place in Eastern Kentucky. All of us here never thought it was anything more than some guy stumbling upon a meth lab, a pot patch, or simply on someone's property.

    @pseudopsych: Well, thanks for that little piece of information for all of us who might have been contemplating a jog to the eastern part of your state. It's good to know that merely trespassing on someone's property, however inadvertently, is grounds for being lynched.

    That does little to explain the word "Fed" scrawled on his chest, though, does it?

    Perhaps your neighbors, in a passing nod to southern gentility, were kind enough to feed that negligent Mr. Sparkman before they trussed him up.

    As for your insights as to what this incident was nothing more than, I would suggest it was something a great deal more than a case of trespass, stumbling on a meth lab, or a pot patch--it was cold-blooded murder of a person who served the public, who raised a family, and deserves more than a pro forma shrug of the shoulders because that's the way things roll in eastern Kentucky...

    @TheSometimesWhy: I would be very disappointed if there is not a public outcry demanding a federal investigation in this situation. Who strips themselves down naked to commit suicide? Scrawls a word on themselves? Every detail points to foul play.

    @TheSometimesWhy:

    There are a lot of methlabs and pot patches in Eastern Kentucky , all of which people go to great lengths to protect.

    A lot of people are very mistrustful of the government as well and don't take kindly to people trespassing on their property.

    I'm sorry if you wanted all of us to gather around this as if it were some vast conspiracy, but it really just didn't seem that surprising for the region.

    You're absolutely right in that I would not prmote it as a vacation destination.

    @pseudopsych: I understand that people who are involved in criminal enterprises get twitchy when others stumble into their space. And given the federal government's performance in the years, oh, let's start in 2000 and go through 2008, I also comprehend how someone might hold them in great disfavor.

    I wasn't so much advocating all of you gather around this as a vast conspiracy, Pseudo, as I was hoping that you might at least acknowledge the barbarity of what happened. It was an act made worse by scrawling the word "Fed" on this poor man's chest. So was he murdered because he got lost and stumbled upon someone's meth lab or because he worked for the federal government?

    You know what? As I typed those words, the surreality of what I am trying to convey to you became apparent. Go with god or whatever else you people worship in eastern Kentucky. If you don't get the underlying brutality and horror of this episode, you are well beyond me and any reason I can cite.

    @TheSometimesWhy:

    Completely understand the horrifying nature of what happened, regardless of the situation (murder or suicide). I just can't really say I was that surprised--given a lot of what goes on over there. I don't think those are mutually exclusive acknowledgements, but whatever.

    I'm from Lexington and the people here mostly worship god, bourbon, horses and money. I, on the other hand, keep my religious views to myself.

    @pseudopsych: "god, bourbon, horses, and money." In that order? Perspective is everything, Pseudo.

    What saddens me is the absence of surprise, which isn't your fault, I know, but I always find really demoralizing.

    Anyway, thanks for the dialogue. I hope your holidays go well.

    Why hasn't Glenn Beck officially stated that he did not drive this man to suicide? How do we know Glenn Beck didn't harass and bully this man to the point that he raped and murdered himself?

    I think there are some serious questions that Glenn Beck should answer, under oath.
