The big question is, WHERE'S OBAMA?
Iran hands him a gift: a popular uprising against the despotic regime for stifling democracy. And where's Obama? Talking to a bunch of medical bureaucrats at a rubber chicken lunch!
He should be out there shouting from the rooftops:
"We support the Iranian people in their quest for democracy! We believe in free and fair elections and demand an independent international body to monitor the democratic process in Iran!"
I guess if it's not on his teleprompter, it won't get said. Sad.

See, they fucking hate us. They hate you especially, because you're just the kind of ignorant fuck who didn't even know that we overthrew their democratically elected government in 1953 over oil. Us. The CIA. Your grandparents. The USA.
On the other hand, they love Americans. They love jeans, pop music, coke. I mean, big surprise, their average age is 25. Now the one thing Obama could do that would drive them over to the side of the mullahs, and especially the grand Ayatollah Khameni, is to get out there and shout from the rooftops:
"We support the Iranian people in their quest for democracy! We believe in free and fair elections and demand an independent international body to monitor the democratic process in Iran!"
I mean, it's not like every commentator on every TV channel from Fox News to CBS hasn't been saying what I just said either.

There was no "democratically elected government" in Iran at that time. The Prime Minister, Mosaddeq, suspended parliament and was granted indefinite "emergency powers", which effectively made him a dictator.
The "overthrow" you mention was British and US financial support to the monarch to pay for propaganda and protests. This resulted in Mosaddeq resigning and the monarch nominating a new PM, which was voted on by the parliament.
Why do they hate us for that? We overthrew the Hawaiian government 50 years earlier, but they don't hate us. The Mexicans don't hate us for taking the southwest U.S. from them. We still have bases in Japan and Germany from WWII, but they aren't killing us with car bombs.
And, I really don't know what the TV commentators say, because I have to work for a living. Country club dues keep going up, you know.
But I do think that failing to support the pro-democracy uprising in Iraq is a big mistake by Obama.

With a really shaky and selective grasp on history, to say the least. It's good to know what the current neo-con "scholarship" is inventing these days to replace, you know, history.
Yes, why would the Iranians hate us? We overthrew Mossadeq and gave them the Shah, after all, one of the most blood thirsty cruel and despotic rulers of the 20th Century. Seriously, what's not to love?
But, dude, by all means keep working hard and paying those dues. I'm sure the Podhoretz, Ledeen and Abrams crowd are heavily dependent on your sagacious advice. And God help us if your bunch ever gets any inkling of power again. Fucking wrong about fucking everything.

Shah the "most blood thirsy cruel and despotic rulers of the 20th century"? Really? Behind Stalin, Hitler, and Mao, the Shah wasn't even a major leaguer.
Compared to some of the other Middle-eastern monarchs, like Saddam Hussein, he was a boy scout. And since our ally the Shah was overthrown, look at what has happened to Iran. Good job!
Maybe if you read some books instead of watching TV commentators all day long you would know this.
