I honestly don't understand the appeal of these "love letter" type books. I thought the true pleasure of reading non-fiction was cackling mean-spiritedly along with the author as he bitchily eviscerates his subject. Right?
it's not only that he has compromised all journalistic integrity but he scoffs at the idea that someone would dare criticize him - i can no longer even remotely believe anything he says or writes and i resent being treated like an idiot-
This is everything that's wrong with the media. Dan Bartlett, who helped spin us into Iraq and four years too many of the worst administration in modern history, employs Richard Wolffe to spin some more for the "liberal" elements of the media. Wolffe sees no problem with going to work for his spin machine in the guise of being an independent voice. Worst, Wolffe sees no problem with any of it.
A couple of years ago a friend of mine warned me to be wary of the phony left. He mentioned Salon at the time, but he also could have mentioned MSNBC. I told him he was being paranoid. Now I realize he was right. And we're fucked.
@Mediahohoho: Liberals were so happy to see someone on TV who wasn't a Bush cheerleader, they gave each of them a lifetime pass. Even if that anti-Bush host/pundit/blogger was against or mocked everything else they believed in. See all the defenders of Olbermann.
@La Mareada: Honestly, no offense but I'm kind of over the stereotyping. I agree with your first sentence to a point; and I think that's true about a lot of commentators on both sides of the fence. But if we are going to stereotype, let's remember that conservatives will forgive their spokesbot a fuckuva lot, no, what with the blaming tolerance toward gays for 9-11, calling for the assassination of government officials, being racists fucktards and the whatnot?
What strikes me is that we're now also supposed to align ourselves with media brands for easy labeling. Fuck that. I watch Olbermann because I hold similarly opinions to his on a range of issues and like the way he synthesizes and presents the information. I also like a lot of the people he books, like John Dean and Jonathon Turley. Does it make me a liberal? Probably. Does it determine my responses to a host of hypothetical situations? Fuck you.
As a very regular viewer (so shoot me) of his show, I take the good with the bad. Not a fan of worst persons, his "feud" with O'Reilly. Love the special commentaries. They're well written and generally about things I believe very strongly in.
What should concern everyone reading this story is the very apparent corruption of the whole system. Does anyone else feel like they're being played as rubes by Wolffe and Bartlett? Fuck them, too. But thank them for revealing how utterly shallow and dishonest the whole shit show really is.
So...you want to define me by that, go ahead. There's a lot of crap to watch/read/listen to. And there are a lot of opinions out there, too, each unique in its own way. Like a snowflake. Or an asshole.
Awww Cajun, you have been so prolific all evening.
I've noticed. Good job. Sometimes a "You are awesome" is counterproductive to "You can do better."
But positive reinforcement is always necessary at strategic times. Just not the wrong times.
@Iwillnotauditionforastar: I agree. The highlight of my weird vampire work schedule is periodically falling in love with a cajun. Who is likely not a vampire.
I saw a play about Howard Hughes when i was a kid, Marooned, i think it was called. Hughes was batshit crazy. I relish the thought of Drudge descending into that level of lunacy.
Maybe... Drudge is under enormous pressure from certain right-wing "friends" to play spin-the-cycle even harder while, inevitably, the shifting political, cultural, and sociological winds have made the temptation to aim his links/content more down the middle harder to resist?
That would be a quandary alright. After a curious delay, he finally linked to the Jane Harman story, playing down the AIPAC aspect. Certain patrons cannot be pleased.
But he's probably tired of carrying water that is certain only to douse his tenuous claims to journalistic independence.
And if so, he's correct to be afraid of disappointed "friends" and the potentially ugly consequences of their disappointment.
It's okay to remain firmly in your (Four Seasons-esque) closet. We all need to respect one another's privacy, especially in this so-called information age where half-truths and innuendo are treated as biblical truths.
That said, could you PLEASE respond to my email about the dry cleaning bill for getting your shit stains out of my silk Undergear underoos? You promised that you would pay for the dry cleaning or replace them and I haven't heard a word!
