    The book that flashes at the beginning - Satan's Underground - is amazing. Sadly, the number of books I own about this stuff - I studied it in college - makes my bookshelf look a little creepy.

    @maryn: Just funny crackpot kooks in the news. I read something like this on the back pages, and I seek the reassurance from the dateline it's a long way off. But long prison sentences are handed down in places like Texas on these garbage pitiful pogroms, including a neighboring town which we played in football Back When. Don't never be born in Texas, is my moto.

    I think Oprah's rise to megalomania started when she switched to all that 'I'm okay, you're okay,' spiritual life-coach crystal visions listen to your inner voice self-help craze. You know, the one where she sang her own show intro and viewers brought notebooks and pens so they could write down all the wisdom Iyanla Vanzant shared, which lead to Dr. Phil, then to 'The Secret,' and now Dr. Oz?

    I just remember a room full of women in our TV Room at the dorm watching Oprah and God FORBID if you made one noise while Iyanla was speaking. GOD FORBID.

    God forbid...

    I grew up in Chicago and used to LOVE Oprah when she was still doing Good Morning Chicago. When she first started, she was bald - completely, head shaved bald. And her show was awesome. I loved her then.

    Of course, I was in middle school then and I also loved Ricky Schroeder, so my taste may be questionable....

    2). Wouldn't cops have been all over this if small children had been murdered?

    You are attacking dust with a broom. Pay attention. You have to understand something about the field.

    A prosecution of a couple who operated a preschool near Austin was based upon RSA; ceremonies in which children were whisked away to hell to be tortured all night and then returned to day care by dawn. To the question, why were no marks ever discovered on any child, nor any other evidence? the circular reaction was: If those devils could fly the children to far away lands to be tortured, they could certainly erase all the evidence.

    A lot of reasonable folk like to pretend, for their own assurance, that southern tripe are just like you and me, only a bit more addled. It ain't necessarily so.

    The child care couple drew 45 years each, according to Texas Monthly.

    @pureblarney: This is my Sandra Tsing Loh story I always look for an Oprah moment to trot out. It was in Atlantic, maybe. She works in poor communities because she be essentially a poor, and one of her set actually went on Oprah to sell her neighborhood school idea and hope for support. `Here's my e-mail; won't you help?' She saw support; $50 in checks, plus around a thousand e-mails, all on the same theme, "How can I get on Oprah?"

    @Airvault: And it seems like the moment that changed everything was when that chair got broken over someone's back on Geraldo. From then on, there were only two kinds of questions to ask guests on talk shows: "Are you the father?" or "Are you living your best life?"

    Yeah. Oprah was just a fluffier female Donahue.

    Though for some reason, Joan Rivers kept having her as guest on The Tonight Show, back before Oprah was syndicated and shown outside of Chicago and then when she started getting stations, it was like Rivers used all of her power to further Big O's star.

    Now comes my favorite part of Gawker. The Talkback. The time where people go out on a limb and support murdering child molesters and rape in prison. Nice to see society's ills addressed so cleverly. Ahh... does everyone feel better now? Good. I'm still having a bit of uneasiness over the fact that this is the state of "news' in the twenty-first century. Fuck the lack of flying cars. I'd like a five minute respite from all the vulgarity.

    Its difficult because I honestly have no issue with people killing pedophiles and rapists. And if there was a way that people who were simply writing the wrongs of these men and women by murdering them and it was that simple, Id have no problem.


    But to watch two newsmen and journalists on primetime television equate murdering an innocent doctor in cold blood in church and murdering a serial child rapist is beyond wrong. Because what it does is it equaes these two crimes, which I cant agree with. It also gives the dumbest minority of people in America - those who support O'Reilly and his elk - a moral ground for murder. Again, if moms and dads would seek retribution in murdering their child abusers - no issues. But I know its not that simple and this language is icky on multiple levels.

    @CHIC NOIR: The one thing - ONE THING - I agree with O'Reilly on is his stance on child abusers. After all those murder cases popped up in the mid 2000's, I actually found myself agreeing with him and what he would do if he had stake in the justice system. Problem is the laws are not on the children's side AT ALL! America is responsible for the majority of child porn - the creation and exporting of it - we lead in child trafficking. Not a third world country, AMERICA. I would prefer all of out legislators to get in their and fix this beyond broken system, but they are just getting acquainted with the internet and how it has made this disgusting act so freaking easy to perpetrate and make money off of.
