    Touching tribute to Fuchs on LCD Soundsystem's Facebook page: "we're all totally stunned and shocked here. we lost a dear friend sunday morning, and we're devastated. jerry, drummer for turing machine, the juan maclean, !!!, maserati and 10,000 other lucky bands also played drums with LCD for some of the first LP tour, but that doesn't matter. jerry was more a great friend than... anything, and that includes how truly incredible of a drummer he was. we miss him horribly." #obits

    Jerry was not only prodigiously talented but also the most hilarious, decent, warm, unpretentious sweet soul I knew. He never failed to put others before himself - sometimes to almost comic effect.
    I'm confident that it's these qualities and not the manner of his death that he'll be remembered for.
    RIP Jerry.

Before I ever saw it, I thought the snarky, ironic air of many the posts meant their authors were hipsters, but apparently that was just a lot of virtual, resentful, and vicarious fun at the expense of those having it for real.     @rotation360: I agree that death isn't (generally) funny, but the gushing "tributes" that pop up everywhere else are so awful. The false reverence/sadness for famous people that most readers don't know personally is more of a mockery than this post, or than the "And now he's dead" tag, IMO.

    Also I think the last two lines of this post are quite touching.

    snugbug is right to point it out to you and your defensiveness only proves to me that you know you are wrong.
    Think how you'd feel if one of the nicest people you knew died a grisly death and some a-hole made childish remarks about it.

    1. If a person with an ample, historically documented public profile kicks the bucket, it's fair game to snark.

    2. Conversely, when confronted with a random civilian who only found her/himself in the instant glare of media attention via the unfortunate circumstances of her/his death, snark is verboten.

    Pretty simple, no?

    To all you glib fucks, Jerry Fuchs was easily among the most easy-going and unaffectedly nice human beings I have ever known. He was the direct opposite of what people make fun of in Williamsburg. Those casting his death as some sort of humorous punchline will hopefully earn some well-earned bad karma. #obits

    This is why they tell you to never ever jump out of a stalled elevator. Wait for the firemen. The neighbor of a friend of mine got stuck in the elevator of her house, panicked, jumped and same thing happened; she fell back in the shaft. In front of her young child. 5 floors. #obits
