I don't care if he was an ass in school. He good and fucked up the Monkey Bar, which was my go-to quiet, fancy bar to get my drink on at 3:00 p.m. Pompous, smug, rotund, self-hating (WHO does not like Canadians!) usurper of favored old-school watering holes, I curse your name!
His father was a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot in the 50s and 60s? He may have lived in a huge house on the hill somewhere near Eastbourne Ave, but as an Air Force brat myself, I can tell you right now; there's no way Graydon Carter's upbringing would have been wealthy. #graydoncarter
@Xylo: Not expensive, but you know how class-conscious Canucks are. We're like the Brits, only without the vast class-dependent variety of accents. He still would have been crossing a divide.
When I grew up on bases, there was still a movement to have one figure-skating class for the kids of officers and a separate one at the same level for kids of sergeants and corporals. And I'm younger than Carter. #graydoncarter
@raincoaster: Well, I know how class-conscious life on an air base can be. My dad ended his career as a non-commissioned Master Warrant Officer, so my family was squarely on the middle rung of that class crap. But it doesn't sound like Carter's friend was in the RCAF, so I was just questioning his description of his life of "poverty" compared to Carter; sounds like they were both from the same neighbourhood, relatively speaking. #graydoncarter
Yes, the "Canadian rag" was indeedThe Canadian Review. I'll always have a place in my heart for Carter for coining "short-fingered vulgarian" as Donald Trump's Spy handle. Unless it was Kurt Andersen, in which case, screw him. #graydoncarter
@GlasgowRose: Okay, Glasgow Rose. I was going to post the EXACT SAME THING. That is downright scary. I didn't know anyone else even remembered that. Every time I see Trump, that's the first thing that pops into my head.
Graydon is no dummy. The self-deprecation persuades the gods that exploding his gargantuan head, though seemingly easy, would make a horrific mess. #graydoncarter
I have dreams of running into Graydon Carter on the streets of Manhattan, magically levitating over him, and petting his hair. I'm not even joking. #graydoncarter
You've managed, btw, to hit on the ONE person who lives in Vancouver whom I do not know. Maybe Hez can help? But at this point, she won't help for free. #graydoncarter
that pic is hilarious. Could Reinhardt look any more into himself? Clearly Paris is completely incidental.
Also -- on the Nick Cage thing: from what I've observed knowing Francis tangentially, the Coppola's are conscientious, tight and put family first. #parishilton
@themediatrix: Cage's Pop was a great guy--he put the "cur" in curmudgeon in the best way possible. He liked his wine, his red meat, and as I recall, he smoked like a burning tire factory. Extremely ascerbic, insightful, unsentimental, yet caring. My condolences to his family for their considerable loss.

I know! And something about his face will always remind me of Ed Wynn. #graydoncarter

We aren't Ned Flanders. We are much more Conrad Black in a Ned Flanders mask. #graydoncarter
