I actually think that Matthews realized how stupid his point ultimately is. Which, I guess is that you shouldn't buy something better, because the ones with the crappy product wont make them better (??) -- or you SHOULD buy the crappy product so that the crappy company has money and can afford to make something better (??). Either way it's the exact opposite of how any reasonable person would look at the situation. He eventually says "fair enough" instead of pressing the issue any further with him.
The most amusing thing in the Bachmann clip though was that he WASN'T shouting at her, though. He just asked her some questions and (cleverly!) lead her exactly to the far out conclusions of her logic. Really his finest moment, since, as these clips prove, he is consistently a jackass.
The thing is, though Matthews is obviously liberal, he doesn't care about ideology or policy or governing. All he talks about on his show are tactics. He wants to be a Senator because politics is a fun Machiavellian game to him, not because he actually cares about any particular issue. Even as a Democrat I'd much prefer Arlen Specter, a highly competent and centrist senator, to keep his seat than for Matthews to take it. Both because I think Matthews would be annoying and without principle and easily defeated in the next Republican wave, and because I actually enjoy his show.
I think he's hittin' the holiday egg nog a little early. So.. the reason the auto industry is in the shitter, is because americans didn't buy american cars? Well.. that may be true on a basic level, but inferior products made in your country, are still inferior. There's a reason I bought a Honda 11yrs ago. I've hardly had to put a penny into it (other than general maintenance, which I'm pretty adept at ignoring) and it still gets great gas mileage. I wonder what he drives. Dork.
@get the buttah: Matthews starts hitting the egg nog at breakfast. I love his intense questioning, but he really goes of the way sometimes. One benefit of it is that Chris answers no questions, ever and if you try, he will just shout more questions at you!
@Iceland_Spar: Well.. I've liked his style as he has put some people on the spot, but this was just an odd assertion. I mean.. it sounded like something Bill O'Idiot would say (except with more spittle ;-). Have they ever interviewed each other? That would be interesting/nauseating.
@get the buttah: That would be amazing! Though it would be a little like the end of Ghostbusters, when they cross the beams, and risk ending the world.
