@hypocriteoath: Some brands benefit from the knock offs. The brands that are attractive to the neuvo riche, because they are familiar with the brands and equate owning the real thing with success.
@Lymed has a Mr. Lymed: They may benefit in a small way from increased brand recognition, but that's about it.
Frankly, I think they brought the explosion of knock-offs onto themselves by caving to the demand for giant logos that the status obsessed love to sport. When the thing that set a purse or a piece of luggage apart was superior quality of materials and craftsmanship, they weren't so easily duplicated.
