    I know that just yesterday in my Russian language class we had a heated discussion on putting sterilants in drinking water, forced abortions, and government confiscation of babies. I was for it, naturally--but then, I'm a communist.
    (Is it redundant to say that I'm a communist after I already admitted I was in a Russian language class?)

    @Bruck: Cromwell and Voldemort were pretty evil, and British. And those responsible for colonizing foreign lands and contributing to massive wars in Europe, slavery in America, and centuries of internecine religious strife.     @Chocolate-Wafer: I think it's because reasonable people, critical thinkers, etc... are less prone to violent attacks than bat shit crazy conservatives, rednecks, right-wingers, racists are because they can't make sense of the insane shit they hear and believe so they only answer is that they lash out. You don't hear Air America hosts reminding their listeners not to be violent.

    Really, help this poor, confused Canadian understand.
    What do these people find so evil and frightening about socialists (not communists, but actual supporters of democratic socialism)?
    They realize Jesus was quite the socialist, right? In fact, if I remember correctly, he also disavowed his followers engaging in any political action, and instead commanded them to serve the poor with all their resources, and spread his message of love and charity.
    I guess he really was just a gay commie pinko. I hear he was a Jew, too.

    @DeltaGuy: The Far Right Talking Points Memo has told their followers that Socialist is a bad thing, a scary word. They're simply marching in formation because it's easier that finding out what socialism really is. They couldn't say 'the N word', so they tried Muslim. When that didn't pull enough support away, they tried just a generic Terrorist label. That didn't work in any great numbers either so now they're going with Socialist.

    @DeltaGuy: reasonable people can civilly debate the relative merits of democratic socialism vs. democratic market capitalism -- there are pros and cons on both sides, and the western democracies all lie somewhere on the continuum with each on either end. ideological blowhards like beck, et al., are incapable of understanding nuance, logic, and civil discourse.
    which also explains why they have such a hard time getting laid.
