    I'm convinced that test prep publishing is going to go absolutely bonkers in the next year or so as all these laid-off workers decide to go back to college/grad school.


    When I worked at Prentice Hall (not a long stint, fwiw), they were buying up all kinds of overseas test prep companies in europe and asia. Pretty soon we'll all be part of the higher ed-industrial complex.

    So this means I have to continue going to the gym for who many years? I'm fucking aging, people. I keep myself in shape because I will be published someday. And there will be a book tour. And I will get some "groupie" tail out of this eventual book tour. I mean, if Edmund White can get groupie sex, I totally can, and of a caliber so exceeding that of Edmund fucking White.

    The whole idea of having to prove market interest in a book before buying it is also known among more successful publishers as "having a business plan" or "common sense." Harcourt probably hasn't made money on a book since Snow Falling on Cedars.
