Ann Coulter, like most right wing pundits, has made a fortune off of her exploitation of right wing hate. She's The Human Stain personified, and her fans are even worse. I cannot believe she gets airtime.
Ann's defense of the death panel: that doctors have a financial incentive to wack grandma. I still don't get it. I thought the provision paid doctors for end-of-life consultations. No decisions are actually made then, just consideration and information about the various options. Doctors would still get paid if the family chose to keep grandma alive at all costs. Note to Joy - please learn the art of the follow up question.
@newsnun: Yes, as usual The World According to Coulter is an oversimplified pile of crap. It's part of a physician's duty to provide discussions with a patient--whether they are terminally ill or not--about their assessment and possible plans of action. When a patient is not coherent, alert, awake and able to make decisions for themselves, a durable power of attorney or family member would receive the facts in the case. With no such person present and no "do not resuscitate" order (enacted by the patient and the patient ALONE) available, a physician is obligated to do everything in their power to save the life of the patient, keep them comfortable, etc., etc.
Yo, Coulter? We can smell your fetid-breathed retorts over the internet and those in the know? Know you are completely full of it.
@scarletmenace: PS This was disturbing. Behar validates and humanizes Coulter. Because in the end we're all friends, right? The "left" buries itself by giving these wretched lying bigots a platform.
@scarletmenace: It's not the left so much as the media. At some point we disembarked from thoughtful debate for wingnut shrieking. It's all for ratings. Why be diligent and discerning when you can get two crazies on to yell at each other then sum it up by saying, "Well, both sides have valid points" when neither side is at all reasonable.
@anonymousryan: amen. one side is lying and bought and paid for by corporate interests whose interests are directly opposed to ours. and the right is worse.
I would just like to add that Coulter is the living dead and therefore, does not need health care. This fact also explains why she is devoid of compassion, soul or conscience.
Ann Coulter is further proof of a growing suspicion I've had for years. Namely, that the right wing radio/pundit axis is largely a joke. That Rush and O'Reilly and Coulter and the rest of them are having a gigantic cynical laugh at the expense of: a) their lunatic fan base, and b) the safety and security of this country. I can't for a second buy that these shit-stains believe a word that comes out of their own mouths, and Ann Coulter is the worst and most comical of the lot.
Really Ann Coulter? I can give up movies and *recitals?* to pay for my health insurance? Last time I went to the movies w/ my son it cost $15.00. Insurance = $400.00 a month - thats 26 movies a month, more if you factor in prescriptions ect.
Can I buy a ticket to her world?
@challygirl: Because she's single with no dependents, if Ms. Coulter were to have health insurance, it'd cost her less than what it costs you or me for my family of four.
Not to mention that she runs in urban areas, which would have expensive movies and because she doesn't have any kids, "recitals" would seem expendable.
Of course, Ms Coulter's knowledge might also be limited because she strikes me as someone without insurance. Her income is a lot like getting lottery money and under the current system, gambling to pay cash could be the most cost-effective choice for her.
@ThePantaloon.com: Please stop linking to your web site at the bottom of every comment you make, especially when it has nothing to do with what the post you're commenting on -- the fact that your user name is also your URL should be enough. I'm going to document this warning in the Commenter Administration system. Thanks for your cooperation.
kind of off topic but I've been waiting for a Coop mention on here so I could ask this... How does AC get to do the 60 Minutes gig while holding his post at CNN?
I believe the article actually says it is Nancy Grace not Jane Velez-Mitchell who is pulling in the Olbermann and Brown beating ratings: "For the past three months Ms. Grace's tabloid-oriented show has outdrawn Campbell Brown on CNN and Keith Olbermann on MSNBC programs among 25-to-54-year-olds."
Who knew that many people had an appetite for night after night of screamy go nowhere Casey Anthony coverage?
The reason I mention Anderson Cooper isn't to say "he should be out too," but just to show two rock-star anchors at CNN taking two very different approaches to talking about their sexuality and both having good results. It's heartening that the person with "out"/open approach is having success too.
@Ryan Tate: I didn't get that you were in any way judging AC at all from your post. You acknowledged that there is a conversation about AC's outness, as a lead in to someone doing the opposite approach (to comedic effect!). Don't second guess yourself. First thought, best thought.
Both of those women are cable show hosts, but they are not really "news anchors". They are commentators who deal in opinion (and in Jane's case lots of loud aggressiveness). Maddow's show is openly directed to and draws a leftist audience. Headline News is totally ratings driven info-tainment schlock - I should HOPE HN get good ratings no matter who the host is given ratings is their raison d'etre. Nonetheless, I'm glad they're both out and doing well in their field.
It's still untested how a traditional national news anchor rather than a commentator would fair if they came out officially, and how a male would fair. People tend to have somewhat fewer hang ups about lesbians, and these women had major lesbian TV personalities like Rosie and Ellen already blaze the trail and to watch fall into pitfalls and try to pull themselves back up.
Thomas Roberts career trajectory hasn't been that favorable an omen, but Cooper has been navigating his edge out well (not to mention the endless outings from other sources) and I'm sure if he wants to officially finish it up he will while still holding on to a successful career. I think Roberts showed how important it is to stick around in your job after coming out. He left CNN and moved cities for his partner's career and couldn't manage to get hired for news again or even keep a tabloid TV job. I don't think Roberts ever showed ability to transmit appealing personality or connect with audiences the way Cooper does either, and he didn't have Cooper's fall back measures of being a contributor to other shows. Hopefully Roberts is happy and non-bitter right now wherever he is.
Mainstream audiences are far more accepting of lady gays than they are of non lady gays. Anderson would have to have a sex change before SUV driving soccer moms and dads would accept his Latino loving ways.
(The) two anchors have each drawn enough viewers to make a solid case that you can be openly lesbian and a huge success in TV news. Fixed. Hi Kitten_Witawip!

What I do hope is that JVM's openness will help promote more acceptance within that older target demographic and it will ultimately benefit gay males.
Odd to consider that women seem to cheerfully accept gay male hairdressers but don't want to get their news from gay males.
