It's arrogant for some asshole to play those games.

Psychologically they are trying to boost their perception importance and wroth by testing who is really loyal. We all now in the process they will earn nothing.

Besides, there is so much shit to read spewing out of every orifice, this is a welcomed change. Let's have more shitty newspapers close.

Growing up, I remember the battle between the Chicago Trib and SunTimes. Brilliant, gritty, dirty. The only thing that I will regret if the LA Times goes under is I will have nothing to put under the litter box.

There was a time, boy. It was the newspaper in the Bay Area. You appeared in Herb Caen's column, you had it made. There was a curmudgeonly solitary sort named Arthur Hoppe, and you hit those two columns, as well as L M Boyd's Grab Bag. Does anybody remember Herb Caen? I think maybe his good was interred with his bones. But, oh, man, back in the day ...

The passing of the Chronicle as it now stands reminds me of a Joseph Heller novel in which the protagonist is encountered by a petitioner on the street. So, the whale might be passing, he thinks. Then my wife and I must learn to get on without them.
