    @BearDownCBears: I think Cicada nailed it. Plus this looks to me to be about a very southern concern with manners and deference that I really don't see playing that well here -- I think relatively few people would find that exchange even faintly objectionable, not least because she clearly says "please" and her tone is perfectly friendly. It's very true that CA is nowhere near as blue a state as I wish it were, but I don't think it's the same kind of conservatism. #carlyfiorina

    @romulus: If you have, and know better, please elaborate. Again, I'm not saying that there aren't plenty of conservative people in California -- the passage of Prop. 8 makes that obvious. I'm saying that this video is not likely to generate the amount of outrage they're hoping for here. If I'm wrong, we'll see. #carlyfiorina

    @MissNormaDesmond: I just went to California for two weeks and traveled everywhere. Outside of LA and San Francisco it is a backwoods super- conservative culture. But it kind of made me glad to be from a backwoods conservative midwest town. In my town, people in poverty are conservatives because they are ignorant that this party doesn't actually serve them, in California, I saw people being conservatives because they were quite aware that the republicans serve their selfish, white, wealthy interests. #carlyfiorina

    @MissNormaDesmond: San Diego is pretty heavily military, but even so, I can't see this video raising much controversy. Not only is Senator Boxer respectful herself, she's simply asking for the respect of being addressed by her own title. I'd say the only people who would fuss are those who already don't like her and wouldn't vote for her anyways. #carlyfiorina

    @banana_grabber: Exactly. Being all about selfish, white, wealthy interests /= getting riled up over a Senator asking to be addressed as Senator. It's a different type of culture.

    I grew up in a small town in northern CA, full of true-red Republicans and the issues that got them riled were taxes and immigration, not stuff like this. Also, Californians are freaked about their state's economy right now. Culture war BS is the farthest thing from their minds. I'm thinking this is just a way to drum up money from the folks who would never vote for Boxer anyway. #carlyfiorina

    @chiquitabanana: When I think of "backwoods", I think in terms of, well, back woods -- remote, sparsely populated areas with little or no intercourse, you should excuse the expression, with the outside world, such as parts of Appalachia or the Ozarks. Backwoods isn't just rural, it's uber-rural. You'll know better than I about where you grew up, but it really sounds more like farm country than back woods. I myself grew up on what had been a working farm up until a few years before I was born, and across the road from another one, but I'd never call the area backwoods.

    It's one thing to say the ad will play well with people who already despise her. Anything that disparages her will play well with people who already despise her. Since she's an incumbent Senator, she's obviously managed to prevail in the past despite their animosity. What they're looking for, or should be looking for, is something that will motivate people who don't already despise her to do so. I continue to doubt that this is it. #carlyfiorina

    @MissNormaDesmond: yes, it's farm and ranch country but a lot of the people here have roots in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and even if it's a few generations back, and they're a heck of a lot wealthier now, they are still proud of their roots and cling on to the accent, the culture, the image, etc - attend one of our county fairs or rodeos and you'll see and meet a lot of people with quite a lot of money who look and sound like they come from the hills of Tennessee...
    on your last point I totally agree - but I don't this particular ad is necessarily to reach out to people who might be on the fence - but more to consolidate her base #carlyfiorina

    @BadUncle: Public companies hardly have inside directors anymore. Definitely not a best practice. SOX and other regulations, along with practical common sense and concerns about conflicts of interest and self-dealing.
