Howie the Moron's Republican colors are showing. He's peddling the Party line that the liberal media has a double standard. If, say, a comely defense contractor lobbyist is caught sleeping with a married Republican congressman whose committee awards defense contracts, the liberal media would get all prissy about it. But an unmarried talk show host (who insulted Mrs. Palin) who has affairs with members of his staff: that's a scandal with long-range implications for the country--and look how the libs have set the agenda.

    Howie: You're a disgrace.

@Edward Lionheart: If he's shocked by Letterman's behavior, where's what ought to be his seething outrage at KBR over the treatment of Jamie Leigh Jones? In the words of your spiritual father, go fuck yourself, Kurtz.

I don't get these comparisons to Catholic Priests and elected politicians..

    1. Catholic Priests aren't supposed to fuck at all. Fucking = scandal, period.

    2. Most elected politicians (specifically the (R) ones -- which are the ones usually busted in these types of things) tout family values in their campaign ads while they pose with a wife, 2.6 kids and a fluffy sheepdog by the fireplace. They servin the people, and fucking interns would violate their claim of trustworthiness and integrity.

Dave is an entertainer and as far as we know at the moment, the fucking happened before he was married (not that, in his case, it really matters), but viewers shouldn't give a shit either way because he's not expected to carry out nobility in his profession vs. the two mentioned above.

The only way his screwing around is in any way scandalous is the argument of other interns he didn't fuck that might feel they didn't get preferential treatment.. otherwise, he's in the clear..

@lobstr: I wouldn't like to speak for Mister Cook, but I do believe the comparisons to catholic priests, defense contractors and Stephanie Birkitt's father were intentionally ridiculous.

Of course Letterman isn't any of those people and Kurtz is stupid for suggesting that he be held to the same standards. The last paragraph is the key.

Just a couple of nights before Letterman's confession, he called out his long-time "Personal Assistant," (Mary Something or Other?), to wish her a happy birthday on-air. He said a bunch of nice things about her, she blushed on camera, then he concluded with "She hates me." I suppose we'll never see that again.

Oh, by the way, if you're a guy, and you live with the same woman for 20 years, support her financially, and have a child together, you're married.

You sound like my sister-in-law's baby daddy. Someone giving you grief about putting a ring on it? Sorry, but a common law marriage is not a marriage. It's a convenient "excuse" for why one is no longer legally responsible for alimony or childcare after the end of a relationship, or why an estate can get so royally fucked up in probate court.

In reply to HuffPo's Nico Pitney vs. Washington Post's Dana Milbank: "Pathetic"
Oh come on, if Dana Milbank wants to fuss at anyone about journalistic ethics and colluding with the administration and lacking integrity and fancy-ass shit, let him train his sights on his boss Fred Hiatt, first.

This is about old media resentment, pure and simple. And it's pretty much the same thing that happened between poor Will Leitch and that old Buzz Bissinger fellow. This is about older newspaper men feeling irrelevant and insecure around their younger, way more relevant counterparts.

You can't fight the future, Dana. Be honest about your motivations for your sanctimony. And remember, you may win this battle. But as far as the war goes, you've already been pwned.

@lobstr: Correction: Dana was originally a man's name as was Lindsey (Lindsay), Courtney, Shirley. They were all man's names. What started in the South was they would name daughters with family names to keep the name alive. I saw a lot of this in Virginia, women named David, etc.

No, Arianna said that Milbank "got his facts all wrong". Why would Arianna write an article attacking her own employee?

Any case, Milbank's a petty Beltway prissy shithead, jealous of his status and perks. Boo-hoo, Obama called on Huffpost- so what? Milbank ought to go commit some actual journalism rather than attack a young upstart for bringing something substantial to the table. No wonder he feels threatened.
