    The wealthy are hilariously thrify. One time I was talking to a multi-multi-millionaire and somehow the conversation went to filesharing. He mentioned how great it was that he could just pop onto Pirate Bay and grab a bunch of music. I just sort of head-tilted, and asked "Why risk the lawsuit? Just use iTunes. It's not like you're hurting for cash."



    He deadpanned "Stealing music is so easy, I'd do it if I was a billionaire." Later, he commented that the (delicious) steaks for dinner were from Costco. Weird, wonderful human being.

    @Unsolicited Advice: Many moons ago when I was a lass I worked in Bloomindales. Most of the shoplifters were rich UES types you just wanted to get off on the fact that they could pay for it, but didn't have to.

    This could be a fun sort of game for unemployed New Yorkers: spotting and reporting on the whereabouts of Ruth Madoff. Sort of like that blog devoted to He-Man sightings, except with more subway rides, grocery store cheese, unexceptional chain restaurant food and, you know, the grinding threat of poverty and disillusion should a job not come along.

    You gotta hand it to New Yorkers for not only recognizing her away from her element as far south as the 30s, but for having the panache to call her out to the wait staff. It's starting to become clear to her she'll be catching shit wherever she goes in that city. Her only move now would be to outright disguise herself or move to some nondescript place where they don't folly big city news..

    I think you're onto something, Foster -- the double-paradoxical double-negative idea of someone like her hanging out in Williamsburg would be so hipster just due to the irony of it alone.



    Not to mention she could hang like those few perceived ATM-absuing trust-fund hipsters. The only problem is, her UES optometrist probably doesn't carry black rectangle frames.
