    Lenexa, Kansas could not be persuaded to open its collective mind if the ghost of Matthew Shepherd, himself, came to visit. I was doing a load of laundry once in a laundromat there and a beefy guy with a moustache did an entire load of Kansas City Chiefs-themed apparel, including those baggy pants with elastic around the waist.

    Seems like this movie is basically exploiting how much gays and straights sometimes suck at communicating with eachother (thus allowing a movie like this to be so potent). It's a reminder that people need to start coming out to their families and actually talking about gay stuff at the Labor Day BBQ and whatnot. Then your breeder friends will be more "in" on the Bruno joke and not thinking "Damn, is that what the 'mos are really like?"

    @Steverino Begins: geighs can be breeders, too ... just messing w/u ... so many geighs use that as a putdown of str8s, but i think it's a complex defense against their own feelings about the restrictions they face if they do want kids, which not everyone, geigh or str8 does. my .02. also: rabbi in hot pants?     the love i have for sacha baron cohen is hard to express. this movie is the tonic i've been waiting for, where someone depicts gays as something other than "straight-looking" or "straight-acting."

    This is what makes some AA's sometimes uncomfortable about Black comedy, with the Chappelle Show on one end and Soul Plane on the other. The intellectually honest thing would be to wait until you see it and decide if you think it's smart or not. There is nothing to be gained by watching through the imaginary eyes of a bigot. We certainly shouldn't endeavor to keep comedy within bounds of "easily understood by idiots).


    If it's too much for you, well you're not alone. It's why Chappelle stopped doing his show.

    as a radical lefty who likes gays, i'm all for getting exposed to the nasty stuff. i mean there is also a highly sexualized segment of the hetero world too, that i'm sure would gross the Jesus Christ out of the Johnson family.


    in my opinion sexuality - all of it - is awesome and while i might not get turned on by every weird thing i definitely think that people should be exposed to it. and yes be forced to acceept it to the point of not being grossed out by it. whether it's in a satire or other forms, i think that would erode the culturally conditioned "it's a gross evil-sin" response.
