imagine if he had pursued his daughter's right to marry or legally share custody of her child with the same commitment he showed to torture. clearly, the article's point is that cheney is the one who finds a child, his own and his grandchild, to be politically unsavory.

During the Bush years, he'd say that the President sets the agenda. I believe Lynne took their family's lead on gay issues and a couple of months ago, after leaving office, he publicly and ceremoniously came out in favor of same-sex marriage.
Sure, he hung-out with Bush and he let Rove play the religious right, but that all seems to be a quest for power. There really hasn't been a lot of evidence that he supports a religious-based agenda and he's always seemed to go out of his way on his daughter's behalf.
