But "radioactive bucket of stress" IS Salman Rushdie's type, according to everyone who knows his previous ex-wife, whastsername, not Padma. #salmanrushdie
You would think that most prison people are not educated/well-read enough to be on top of financial news to actually know who he was or understand the gravity of his crime ..did all the crazy hardened criminals really knew who he was and what he was all about when he strolled in?
@Lymed: yeah but I was picturing a bunch of catfishy dudes with olde-English font tats who care more about how to file a basketball pump needle into a shank than keep up with the daily news from the outside that doesn't really affect them...
Madoff wins. He swindled his way into living out most of his years in luxury and as a well-respected member of the "business community." Now he gets three hots and a cot to comfortably live out what's left of his life. We don't even have the satisfaction of knowing he's being forcibly sodomized since his high profile means that he gets tight security.
@Astroblack: Agreed. He seems to be having an easy time of it, hanging out at the sweat lodge and having gay friends cook him up little treats.
And of course there's the constant risk that Scotland--well, the Justice in Scotland--will extradite him so he can be sent home. Because that's a "get out of jail free" card, y'know.
Many of his victims were elderly people, who are probably suffering from a whole slew of health ailments too. The difference is, many of them can't afford health care now, thanks to him. So: pity? None. Or ... damn it! Very little.

Jesus, they had to rely on prison snitches to get this story? Everyone who knew him in Palm Beach has been talking about this for over a year now. it was an open secret that he had cancer. It's the reason he decided to come clean when he did, he wanted to spare his family the pain and indignity of being dragged into the whole mess and knew he could take the fall himself thus sparing them jail time. he had this whole thing planned ever since he found out about the cancer. What the NYT should be doing is tracking down his medical records to determine exactly when BM knew he had cancer.
Perhaps I'm a bit heartless (ok, I am) but I fail to see how it's "still sad" to hear about this. It's called karma and it's a bitch. The man ruined lives and is a sociopath. He deserves everything that comes his way.
@bboston88: Indeed. No sadness, no pity. I'll save those for his victims (though at least some of them clearly let their greed overpower their wisdom).
@bboston88: Are you really going with "karma" here? So what about all the nice, helpful, law-abiding people who have cancer, did they do something to deserve it too? Try again, boston.
@BookishLookish: I don't truly believe in karma and think that fate gave him cancer. I'm well aware of nice, law abiding people getting cancer. For example, my teenage nephew got malignant melanoma at age 14 and died from it three years later. Great kid, never in trouble, straight A student who suffered tremendously and died in my brother's arms at age 17. Once you've stood looking at your dead, 17 year old nephew in a casket, bloated from the unsuccessful cancer treatments, you're never quite the same. So Bookish, I guess I will try again.
I do, however, feel somewhat better when the awful disease ravages someone who is clearly a sociopath and of little value aside from taking up space and costing taxpayers money.
@naugahydeinplainsight: Agreed, idiots who think they were just an inside group getting great deals? I don't have sympathy. Charities ripped off? Yes, I do. And just because he's not a mass murderer doesn't mean he didn't destroy lives or isn't a terrible person.
