Things were getting a little too hot, she lashed out, he left, and she followed and continued her attack. Clearly she's in the wrong here. No question, unless he struck her first... but since no one's reporting any physical abuse that she's suffered, it seems she's the aggressor. Yeah, cheating is a shitty thing to do, but it isn't illegal, and doesn't warrant being physically assaulted. And some of the double standard business I'm seeing on this thread is ridiculous. Urgh. Being a wronged woman does not justify physical violence. And yah, the whole golf club thing just ups the ante into felony assault with the intent to do serious bodily harm.
If it went down as speculated, hopefully Tiger can overcome the stigma and speak out truthfully today. Assault is still assault, but it takes a "bigger" person who is larger and stronger to succumb to a good few licks without retaliating, while possibly attempting to restrain an attacker, or riding it out in measured control until you can walk away. No shame in that.

The police clearly don't want to investigate this case or get involved at all. When the police came to interview Tiger the first time the wife told them he was sleeping and they just left! If she were a he, there is no way they would have been all "Sure, we can come back at another time. No problem".

I was in no way justifying domestic violence (See School of Obviousness).
But from the School of Commonsense and Knowledge of Nasty Spousal Relations, I can tell you that, assuming what people surmise is correct:
A very attractive, still young woman, i.e., still wants to preserve her looks, who is the mother of young children, i.e., wants to protect her tender offspring, does not wail on her super-successful, multimillionaire, celebrity husband who's been rumored to have been a non-stop Lothario/Don Juan for just nothing.
He said something. It was probably outrageous.

People lose their tempers and it devolves into physical violence all the time. It would be better if it didn't, but ithas been known to happen.
What was said does matter.
Personally, assuming that what's been reported is accurate, I am not particularly mystified.

That detail makes the National Enquirer's story a lot more credible because Elin almost broke off her engagement to Tiger right before they got married because she discovered Tiger had a secret cellphone with messages from other women. I'm betting Tiger still has at least one secret cellphone that Elin doesn't know about.

No doubt she and the kids will be taken care of financially for the rest of their life, but her name will always be linked with this mess.
My guess is she'll dye her hair (her most distinct physical attribute) and remarry as she's young, attractive and rich. She'll publish a memoir, do some talk shows as the "scorned ex-wife of Tiger Woods", and put out a golf clothing line for women.
In other words, I'm not inclined to feel sorry for her as I think she'll come out of this smelling like a Swedish rose.
Tiger, on the other hand, will forever be a cad in the public eye. His halo's officially tarnished. Hardcore golf fans will overlook this latest transgression as long as he continues to out-perform his peers, but sponsors may not. If Nike drops his ass, he's done.

It comes down to buying power: we the consumers vote with our wallets. If sponsors detect even a hint of compromise to their bottom line, they'll cut him loose.
Jay-Z dropped Chris Brown because he was "tired of all the drama", and they were close friends and business associates. It's not a stretch to see how sponsors could do the same to Woods. I'm not taking bets on the outcome, but I'm skeptical he'll get through this without financial repercussions.

There is a degree of violence that is acceptable in a cheating scenario. A slap to the face is fine. A golf club to the dome is not.
