clicking this link to thorne's website made my week. except now i'm pissed because apparently it's also made many others' weeks, as his site has now "exceeded bandwidth limit" and is currently unable to service my requests for more.

From Simon Edhouse's site. Who to believe?

NOTE: to all those who might have visited here in relation to a posting by David Thorne on his website, David's story is of course quite untrue, the emails fraudulent, and we may take appropriate action. (haven't decided yet) LET ME SAY THIS... Yes, David is a VERY funny guy, and I know his humour and him more than most as we have been friends for years, and worked together. However, the things he has said about me are fabrications, and he does this type of character assassination often and wantonly. - I could laugh too, if I didn't know that he would go on hurting others again and again until someone says, 'enough is enough' i.e. try and be funny without trying to denigrate and humiliate your friends.

David is a very angry man, (with H.A.T.E. self-tattooed on his knuckles) and has many problems. His satirical piece on me is quite ironic actually, because we would be very happy to pay David well for his graphic design, (if he would just do that, but the difficulties working with him outweigh the benefits) He is an excellent designer and we certainly have the funds to pay him. However, David would prefer to slander and defame and make up this kind of silly nonsense than conduct himself in a professional way. - I have always liked David, but as I said, he has some serious personal issues. (To all other victims of David's vicious pranks... shall we form a support group?) - Cheers, Simon.

@Benny: Sounds suspect to me. Wanna bet Simon came up with this story cuz he's embarrassed Thorne made him look like a dumbass?

@OrneryBabe: I wish I knew. If the original was made up that is very lame. If it wasn't and this guy is pretending it is, the original is only enriched. I'm sure all will be revealed in time.

David also had a superlative email exchange with a customer service rep erroneously trying to charge him $233.99.
He offered then a crude drawing* of a spider.
The exchanges back and forth were similarly brilliant.

    * To be fair, a wonderfully crude drawing of a (unfortunately maimed) spider.

Unfortunately, 99.999% of what it takes to be successful in business is shamelessness. One need only glance at TechCrunch, Mashable, etc. to see examples in every direction.

If more people were called to the table for their rude bullshit, this would be a better world. Most of the time, however, these things slide on by out of a sense of decorum or from fear of "burning bridges".

Eighty-seven per cent of the "comedy writers" in Hollywood should read this and be awash in shame. A new standard has been set, the bar has been raised. No longer will people refer to "Who's on first?" The new classic prompt will be "Who's making the pie charts?"

David Thorne's missives should go down in history as shining examples of the power of the word to effect justice, to assert the dignity of working people everywhere, and to make liquids spontaneously pour forth from a total stranger's nostrals at a speed approaching the speed of light.

And let's not forget to give more than a passing nod to that monumental dickhead of the ages, Simon Edhouse. To play the straight man with such retina-searing brilliance, however inadvertently and unconsciously, is more than comic genius. It is an act of philanthropy that approaches the sublime--it gives people the will to live. If only to experience the sheer bliss of reading stories like this.

(For those of you wondering why I referred to 87% of Hollywood writers at the top of this post, it wasn't a random number--the other 13% of that group are functionally illiterate.)

The relentlessly polite "Regards, David" refrain gives this exchange a poetic dimension. I love how it drives David's interlocutor to escalating "you f*ck!, f*ck off!, get f*cked!" fury.
