    I'm starting to think that if Bobby Jindal, a Rhodes scholar who went to Brown is acting like this in a televised appearance, he acts that way in all his official duties in Louisiana. Is this the level of Uncle Tom-style self-effacing, aw-shucks behavior you have to display to be a person of color and be accepted in Louisiana? Just asking.

    @oopsidoo: Wow, lol I had no idea Jindal was a Rhodes scholar. I hadn't heard of him until his speech, and the impression I got was that he's just another immensely stupid figurehead of the Sarah Palin and Bush brand.

    @alteran1: It really doesn't make a bit of difference that he is a Rhodes scholar. His ultradogmatic ideals run counter to what most people would consider scholarly. You might as well have some community college educated biology student in there, someone who at least is able to construct coherent arguments with premises that aren't dependent on what religion you belong to.

    As a quick-talking Kiwi (I even speak fast in other languages) raised in a Queen's English-saturated family, I have a particular soft spot for the Southern accent. I'm not sure why, I think the slowness is comforting. Kenneth-styled Southern, that is. Not too keen on the Drop Dead Gorgeous accent...

    Jack Brayer is wonderful. My theory about the success of the Kenneth character is that most New Yorkers don't really enjoy disliking people who are different. Kenneth represents a young Southern fundamentalist type with whom they could be friends. He's young and naive, but not malicious.
