    I guess Principal Rupert decided his special ed class needed some discipline. They were getting rowdy with the art supplies, blowing glitter everywhere and eating the paste.

    The current GOP rhetoric is highly charged and dangerous for our President. Period. They are encouraging their constituency to not even recognize that we HAVE a legitimate President. They have been inciting and promoting mass treason since the election. People who don't know any better don't even realize that these shows are commentary and entertainment, not the news.

    @Curatorial: "They are encouraging their constituency to not even recognize that we HAVE a legitimate President." To begin with, the birthers are not representative of the current GOP. There was an article about Republican talking points on here about a week ago and nowhere was it mentioned to challenge to the legitimacy of the President's citizenship. Secondly, does any of this sound familiar to you? You don't remember the words "stolen election" ever being uttered by members of the left at any time between 2000 and 2008? There was even a propaganda film made about id prior to the 2004 elections. The director of that film was invited to sit in the Presidential box in 2004 by former President Carter.

    This birther business is ridiculous and embarrassing, but it is the work of a fringe group of conservative loons, not the GOP.

    @ChillbearLatrigue: Your counter-points are well stated. Assuming that the birthers are not aligned with the GOP, which I question, can we at least agree that a definitive slap down to their ridiculousness by someone who has some legitimacy in the GOP such as Rush or Coulter or McCain could snuff this movement out in 3 minutes?

    I mean, for God's sake, even Meghan McCain stepped up in the absence of anyone else stating the obvious and delegitimized Joe the Plumber by declaring him a "dumb ass."

    @Curatorial: Agreed. I did catch O'Reilly last night essentially saying that the birthers should shut up. However, you're right in that it should come from Steele. He did deny that he wasn't endorsing the birthers, but that's not as definitive as I would like.

    What provoked this was probably the Long Island mother of 3 who was arrested over the weekend for scouting out an air force base thinking it was a FEMA camp. She had a car full of ammo and was apparently a huge Beck fan.

    Under Bush's rule, she should probably be in Gitmo as an enemy of the state, which would allow her to check out a FEMA Camp 4 REALZ.

    @ngoandy: Thanks. Though I see the article and the comment, plus when I punch their names into Google, I see a lot of blog posts and reference to a MySpace page, but I'm having a hard time connecting fandom to attacking a National Guard or "FEMA" base.

    So, I guess Mr. Beck may not have necessarily been doing everything within his power and instead, he might possibly have been covering his ass.
