Who knew that many people had an appetite for night after night of screamy go nowhere Casey Anthony coverage?

It's still untested how a traditional national news anchor rather than a commentator would fair if they came out officially, and how a male would fair. People tend to have somewhat fewer hang ups about lesbians, and these women had major lesbian TV personalities like Rosie and Ellen already blaze the trail and to watch fall into pitfalls and try to pull themselves back up.
Thomas Roberts career trajectory hasn't been that favorable an omen, but Cooper has been navigating his edge out well (not to mention the endless outings from other sources) and I'm sure if he wants to officially finish it up he will while still holding on to a successful career. I think Roberts showed how important it is to stick around in your job after coming out. He left CNN and moved cities for his partner's career and couldn't manage to get hired for news again or even keep a tabloid TV job. I don't think Roberts ever showed ability to transmit appealing personality or connect with audiences the way Cooper does either, and he didn't have Cooper's fall back measures of being a contributor to other shows. Hopefully Roberts is happy and non-bitter right now wherever he is.

What I do hope is that JVM's openness will help promote more acceptance within that older target demographic and it will ultimately benefit gay males.
Odd to consider that women seem to cheerfully accept gay male hairdressers but don't want to get their news from gay males.

She also borrowed the lipstick from the waitress as well, is what I'm thinking.

And we can all go back and forth as to whether that's 'open' or fair or whatever of him; whether he 'owes' himself, or the gay kid in West Bubblefuck who thinks he doesn't belong, the freedom of complete disclosure and belonging...but it's his choice, and, frankly, I don't see why anyone (lgbt, straight, whatev) should get to bitch-smack him about it every second as if he's a gay man living as a right-wing anti-gay Republican. At this point, he's made his choice, and I don't blame him for drawing the line on not answering personal questions, since his choice isn't really being respected.
I'd love to see everyone who lives in the public eye out, but I don't think I get to push my personal agenda (in this regard) on others. I also love to read dirt on people in the public eye, and being that ACoop is pretty much 'living' out, I love to see pics of him with guys on Gawker, and speculate. But, for real, I think the belief that if folks just keep asking (and expecting it of him), he'll become a complete open book regarding his personal life, has really got to just die now. Let the man, at least live, in peace. Or else, we're like Perez Hilton or some shit.

Somewhere, somewhere, there lies the American dream incarnate.
Wow.

Exactly. She's a Nancy Grace clone, not a Rachel Maddow clone.
FFS, who cares if she's a lesbian. Her show is garbage.

Sorry for being a beeyatch on this one subject, but I figure each commenter is allowed at least one instance of hand-wringing proselytizing.

When mentioning "partying," I was referring to drinking excessively, not being homosexual. I just wanted to clarify that after rereading my own comment.
Shit, now I look completely like a beeyotch for replying to my own comment.

If only they were so honest in their official reasons for dismissal. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for employers to cover up their discrimination. It is especially easy to fire someone if their past drug use suddenly becomes common knowledge.

Sources say that the woman who replaced her as anchor had a more than professional relationship with the station's general manager.
Rumors at that station also suggest that female reporters who do not have children and/or do not go whacky over the VP of Ops kid don't fare well.
As an anchor here, she was much more mellow and funny. And was good at knowing when not to be. In her book she is still funny, but since she got into the crime reporter/sensationlism genre through Harvey Levin's Celebrity Justice she has created the more emphatic, shrill persona which I have to admit I don't like.
I used to read an LA News blog which is where I read the gossip I recount here. The author of that blog has since passed on. But according to him, people who worked with her really liked her. One person called her "the nicest person on the planet".
Because I used to read that blog and I listened to her newscast every day when I worked at home, I became a fan. Now I'm not so much a fan as kind of a well-wisher. I don't like the "new" JVM very much and don't watch her show.
But when her book came out and I read it, I wrote her a note through her website telling her how much I liked it and why, she very graciously wrote back with a nice note the next day. When was the last time you had a celebrity of any kind do that?
Knowing some of what she went through to get where she is now makes me especially sympathetic to her I think. And I love her honesty about who she is. After she lost her anchor shift here, she could have headed back into small market news. I'm glad she didn't.
Ironically her replacement at KCAL is about a fake as you can get. She is Asian and looks less and less so as time goes on. She also has this horrible screeching laugh and will segway from "flirting" with the weather man, shrieking with "mirth" right into "...and three people were killed today..." She's almost the complete stereotype of the brainless large breasted blonde newsgirl.
Go Jane!!
