The only upside to having my marketing job cut at an NBC affiliate is that I didn't have to stick around desperately trying to pump up the Leno crapfest. Please keep these us posted on the calamity that is NBC. It's truly a bright spot in my unemployed gloom. #nbc

Slaying Wells' Southland puts to rest Gaspin's claims that NBC is managing for anything else except for roaring mediocrity.
It wasn't a canary in a coal mine, it was the entire avian genus.

Well, his ratings are the same as they ever were.

What he's finding out is that the expectations are different at 10PM than they are at 11:35PM. That this took anybody at NBC by a surprise, including Leno, is the real stumper. #nbc

Losing to Sons of Anarchy? Cool. Guess we know which way the young motorcycle-loving audience is breaking.
Unfortunately, even at a 1.8, Leno is delivering more than the 1.5 that NBC promised advertisers and the bucks will keep coming in. #nbc

The Atlantic named Zucker a Brave New Thinker for the Leno show in the Nov. issue. Think maybe they should have waited to see how that turned out?
(Most of the other BNTs are equally pathetic choices, not Brave or not New or not Thinkers. Gawker needs to do a post on it.) #nbc

@VioletViolet: I don't think anybody at Gawker wants NBC to fail. I just think everybody wants Leno to fail, and to see Silverman's mistakes rectified swiftly. Both of these steps would actually lead to NBC succeeding in some capacity, so I would think Gawker is saying they want to see the peacock return to some semblance of glory, rather than looking like London five minutes after the end of the Blitz. To have a network from the birth of television make it this far into the cable and digital era, only to stumble so badly in the last few years is embarassing, and can only be blamed on human failure.

The sheer level of wrong-headedness that made those executives think that putting a talk show on at nine o'clock, against dramatic competition from the other major networks, is just incredible. That they only saw him competing against ABC and CBS, and not against cable outlets as well, shows just how far removed from reality Silverman and Zucker and the rest of their ilk truly were. I imagine the local news outlets who are suffering because of this traumatic lead-in don't want NBC to fail either, they just want something worth watching on at that hour so that people might stick around for the thirty minutes following it. #nbc

@ampersandparade: Not just from the birth of television, but from the birth of radio.

Hell, ABC was originally NBC Blue before the Justice Department forced RCA to divest it from the NBC broadcasting empire.
