So when are they banning movies and books which contain violence? How about starting with the Bible seeing as it has inspired no end of serial killers?
This whole thing is ludicrous!Reply
Yeah, the rubberized buttons/handle would have lookd nice, but they probably would've added a huge amount of cost to the unit. Overall, I agree that the actual product looks great (albeit with a couple of flaws).Reply
I see 2 problems, one minor - one major. If this device comes with an iPhone/iPod OS I will have to seriously look at where this can find a place in my life. If it comes subsidised and requires a cell carrier then this product is dead to me. I pay WAY WAY WAY too much now to ATT for my iPhone 3G and I simply can't afford another bill.Reply
@EVEs_Mako: I'm pretty sure this product is meant for people on Verizon with a dumbphone. If you have a MacBook and an iPhone like I do, this doesn't meet any any unmet needs.Reply
@The Lab: Not necessarily true- there are a lot of us out there that would like something like this to replace the less than stellar e-Readers out there, while also posing as a multi-media device. This might go over well overseas too, where an Apple Product like this (especially if it ends up utilizing something akin to the new Sony 2TB memory Stick) could knock someone like Archos off it's pedestal for about the same price. I do agree that it will be something difficult to acclimate to here in the US, but a great deal of people pooh-poohed the iphone at release with its trouchscreen as being an unworkable piece of equipment that would only find a niche market, and now Touchscreen phones have had a resurgence past the small unworkable screens of the Palm Treo and certain BlackBerry's. So, I personally feel more comfortable spending $600-$800 on a Tablet from apple that can do e-books well, as well as much more, than dropping half that cost on a solitary function Kindle or Sony eReader. But that's just me...Reply

@JYHASH: Just no. This would not replace the e-readers because e-readers have a much higher DPI than the iTablet will. This is just a laptop without a keyboard. An e-Reader has resolution more comparable to paper. (300 DPI vs 72 DPI)Reply
Censorship is a very weird issue these days. Not so much prior to the mass availability of information. The internet can sometimes be compared to Petrol in the sense a lot of news that you get through forums, some sites and such aren't refined. Then you've got websites of varying degrees that refine it and shape and redefine it.
But getting to the point, trying to censor information or a type of thing in a particular country is pretty much like a parent that says you will not do this because I said so. Rather than I'd like you to understand that this bit is fiction and this bit is real and here's the line that you shouldn't cross. Maybe these politicians should watch the Penn and Teller: Bullshit episode on Violent Videogames that showed how an actual 9 year old reacted to real guns despite playing these 'Killerspiel'.
Instead of banning them, perhaps an understanding of people should be brought about. I remember attending an independant film-makers conference where similar to this there was a much older film-maker who was attacking a much younger one (who managed to get an audience thanks to piracy and crowdsourcing). While the two may not be similar, censorship issues like this are mostly due to a generational gap which prevents one group from understanding the other. As for people who going on real life killing sprees they are disturbed individuals of course.
More than games, I'd blame the media coverage of these events by sort of making them look semi anti-heroish instead of not showing who these people are and not making a huge news deal out of it thereby not giving enough information to potential psychopaths that their actions will be taken notice of by the larger public thanks to the 24hr media coverage in some cases.Reply
