The profoundly child star ignorance on display notwithstanding (Averted Gaze), it all begs the question: Is one still technically a virgin if one is "turning Japanese"?
Maybe this'll help. Ching-Chong eyes : Caucasians :: "You're such a fag" : Heteros
People used to use "fag" regularly and not ironically, and mostly perceived it to not even be hurtful or even much of an insult, and definitely didn't see it as homophobic. I'm guessing ching-chong eyes (it's ok I can say it cause I'm Azn!) is seen in the same way?
Racism against Azns is a funny pickle because we're pretty well integrated as far as achievement goes and "minorities" don't see us as minorities. We're submissive about this stuff too but not in the sense people associate submissiveness with Asians but more of a pragmatic issue (or maybe that's just me?) Like why should I worry about what some little disney twat does with his eyes, I've gotta get to violin/piano practice or my parents are gonna kill me when I don't get straight As this semester.
Anyway to continue this ramble, I thought it was funny that Battlestar Galactica last night basically said Earth was populated by a bunch of Caucasians and some Azn sexbots. Oh where's Speigelman and his cyclons!
@pantsonfireliarliar: I think other minorities view Asians as fellow minorities, in most respects. When it comes to education, there's definitely a feeling that much of the Asian community possesses cultural characteristics that put them at an advantage. But I do think that people recognize that, aside from education, Asian people share in the minority experience. I've never heard anyone imply that being Asian was similar to being white in America or any other Western nation.
Richard, has it been more than a month since we spent Valentine's weekend together? Oh, how time flies.
Unfortunately, I'm hosting a baby shower today. Luckily, there will be early afternoon intoxication but it will come at the cost of having to spend the afternoon with a gaggle of breeding-aged women.
Ha! You're on fire this morning, Richard. Whatever did you DO last night?!
Also, re: "Because no one really has any frame of reference for figuring out how to deal with perceived racism against Asian folks in this country. (Trust me, I should know.)": I had no idea you were a ching-chong, Richard! Congratulations! Moo-goo-guy-pan, and all that!
@ginger rant: Ha, actually I'm not. I just got yelled at on the Huffington Post for being racially insensitive or something dumb like that. But I loves me some Azns.
