While it is tempting to hate on the young McDonnel, Twelve was an amazing achievement for such a young lad. Would you prefer Nick use his connections to run around town like a jackass fauxcialite? I'm sure the majority of his ilk can barely read a book, much less string sentences together.

@SeaBassTian: I don't know, man. it says quite a lot about him that he sold his first book to his godfather. If "Twelve" was really worthy of publication when he was shopping it around (though: did he even bother shopping it?), then surely he could have managed to sell it to someone that wasn't present at his baptism. That he didn't makes me feel like it was heavily, heavily edited.

@volvoist: Honestly, I was so clueless @ 17 that I could barely coordinate an illegal beer run much less negotiate a major book deal. I am not saying that ND did not coast on his family connections, but the finished product is damn good. The film may be another story!
