    Say what you will, but this kid's been in the spotlight for over a year now, and he's somehow keeping his head above water. No major scandals, no huge slipups, no publicly-pressured apologies for something weird he did when he was 12... He's making money and acting as permanent bete noir to the Republican Icon, and no one can do anything about it.

    I might as well bust out of the closet: I like Levi Johnston.

    His good looks coupled with that perennial "aw-shucks" vibe do a number of me. He's like a contemporary iteration of Huck Finn--a good-hearted white-trash boy with a streak of fundamental decency who fell in with some unsavory company and got swayed by the dark currents swirling around him. Not intelligent, but shrewd in that instinctive way in which smart-yet-uneducated people often are. An innocent who believes that he's manipulating circumstances to his advantage even as other, more nefarious and skilled behind-the-curtain players manipulate HIM. A handsome pawn who thinks himself a knight. A dumb, good-looking, a-hole saint.

    My writer friend at Traveler says McKinsey started this week on their floor and are planning on going through next week "evaluating". Traveler pays their writers very little, and the hotels pay for the writers to visit, so it's hard to imagine a more dissimilar cost-comparison pairing than Vogue and Traveler.

    And Anna is just beginning to "get" the Web? Not that I had much to begin with, but my respect for Bea Schaffer just went down - how hard would it have been to tell Mommy about this series of tubes and how all the kids are using it? Betting she, like everyone else, is too afraid of getting Mommy angry.

    A minor problem was that Wintour hated the word "blog." It seemed ugly to her -- like "hog" or "bog." (no, I'm not making this up)

    In contrast: Smithhimself embraces ugliness. At least, he did last night.

    @smithhimself: wow - I always hated the word blog too, and for the same reason. Of course, I didn't let it keep me from seeing the future of media like some people.
