Jesus Christ. The last time everyone decided to listen to the teenagers, we ended up with a massive stock market bubble that went flat once everyone realized that, gee, we need our Web sites to actually generate revenues. Now they're advising the Administration? Have we learned nothing from the last time? Have we forgotten that we all promised -- I remember it distinctly -- never to listen to young hipster people again, unless they managed to put on a goddamn necktie and present a sound business plan?

I've gotta lie down.

Chief strategy officer is an orthodox title compared with the TOMS guy in the delegation. Social entrepreneur Blake Mycoskie calls himself the Chief Shoe Giver. I'm sure he's a wonderful and worthy guy. But I don't want him making economic policy in even the most tangential of ways.

I don't know anything about the other folks, but Jake Nickell's done some impressive stuff with Threadless. The company makes a boatload of money off the t-shirt sales and seems to have stumbled on a business model that uses social networking to actually make money. This article blew me away ([www.inc.com]).

Who knows if a guy who sells t-shirts can help figure out how to rescue the economy. But it certainly can't be any worse than turning to the guys who used to sell credit-default swaps.

Is this article supposed to be ironic? I am not entirely sure as to the credentials of these people, but I would hardly say that meeting with these people is an outrage at the same level as the bank bailout. Obama's administration has relied heavily on technologies like facebook in the past, is it any surprise that he would be meeting with people involved with it's creation? Obama has always been a supporter of new technology as a means to solve issues... and these social networking sites have proven to be highly successful as communication tools.

Anything that contributes to our ability to communicate with each other (respectfully) is worthy of being on the President's radar. Your objection to his interest in the tech-savvy young people seems akin to Limbaugh's rantings about socialism and the end of capitalism with the new administration. Talk is cheap, isn't it -- and action, if there is any from this meeting, will speak louder than your words of distain. Action from bright, young optimists will nearly always be worthy of mention; why not wait to see what happens next before you condemn those who you clearly do not even understand?
