What's the point of watching this show if we know already how it turns out?

Well, someone mentioned this on the NYMag boards but the journey of a girl's initial rebellion and subsequent tragic, slow transformation into the person she hates most: her mother is a brilliant premise. and like the wire, the writers already know how each character is going to end up, so they can actually tell a story that serves character rather than the audience. and for their intelligence and dedication, the audience is rewarded with plot that pays off in the end. oh but wait, this isn't HBO and it isn't being helmed by david simon.

Wait, it's on the CW? Helmed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of The O.C. you say? You're right RIchard, there isn't a point of watching this show.

P.S. Shiloh Fernandez is NOT hot.

Oh Lordy, that spin-off was atrocious. I seriously hope that the rumor that it has already been canceled is true. So, the often referenced Lily-in-jail secret is that she once hit someone on the head with a purse. And she once hung out with guys who looked like rejects from Sha Na Na. The only things I liked were Blair's prom dress and seeing that Andrew McCarthy is cute again (after a bloated-and-not-so-hot stage.) Of course, it could have been saved if Serena and Blair just started making out on the steps.

This episode broke my heart. They tried to fit in so much of the spinoff nonsense that they turned prom (PROM FOR GOODNESS'SAKE) into a ridiculous, broken, rushed atrocity.

As for the spinoff. Here's to hoping it dies a fast, painful death and JS and SS are attacked by wild rats in their kitchens while they're popping down for more of whatever it was they drank when they thought up this episode. Damn you!

Seriously, let's think about this plot, writers. Somehow 80s Lily gets arrested for "fighting" at her future first husband's 80s coke party and then, 18 years after the fact (mind you, she's supposed to have somehow given birth to a secret lovechild with Rufus who is 19), finally comes to terms with her overbearing mother (whose dreams for Lily's life all managed to come true despite the little arrest "glitch" and a never before mentioned sister...) and puts her own daughter in jail to "teach her a lesson." I'm pretty sure sleeping with someone with whom she shares a secret half brother scared her straight like 5 episodes ago, Lil.

The point of the spin off is that Lily completely fails to become that free person. Utterly fails. It would probably be a show where the writers take a young girl full of that "finding myself" crap and slowly but surely turn her into the dead on the inside present day Lily. It would probably be one of the saddest (and fantastic) attempts if the show runner was willing to have balls to keep the story dark.

Stand and Deliver is an Adam and the Ants cover. A bad one. But nonetheless, we were, I think, to assume that this lovely blonde fairy name of Stefani was singing in an 80s type band with that guy who dumped her, only it's 1983, cuz the song is from 1981! So you see. Don't you?

Simpsons stamps? Exellent. I already have Simpsons checks and address labels, so all I need now is a vile of Matt Groening's spit to seal the envelopes and my bill-paying process will be complete.

Um, does this mean this Brie person is no longer Pete's wife? 'Cause if it does this could mean interesting things for the show, and by interesting I mean, Peggy and the illegitimate child she denies/dreams of/wants to trap Pete with/not really. Yay?!

@Spirit Fingers: I hope not! That would be jumping the shark if they actually get together, especially after the Season Two finale.

But if Matthew Weiner is like David Milch, when Brie's pilot fails, he won't take her back on the show.
