By 1974 standards, this guy wasn't doing that bad. In 1974, it was hard to find any pants that didn't have enormous bell bottoms. Even college kids were wearing leisure suits then. The really fashionable Canadian guys were going with 1st generation mullets. 1973-1979 is pretty much the worse years for fashion, music and everything else to do with pop culture. I didn't even own a TV set. #jamiedimon

He seems kind of normal/cool. Also, dredging up high school yearbooks just makes the dredger look bad. Isn't that obvious? #jamiedimon

He also eschewed the traditional uniform of the B-school student-khakis and button-down shirts.

I can't condemn this part of his choice. Dressing for work at as a Gap clerk / Silicon Valley Startup CEO isn't terribly fashion forward. #jamiedimon

We may still be waiting for an explanation from the money men, but President Bush isn't. He's sitting down in Dallas atop a mountain of money, watching playoff baseball games without a care in the world. #andrewrosssorkin

Side note: why are the WSJ and the NYT so similarly worded regarding the reason for JPM's unseasonable profits? Did they both regurgitate an unattributed press release from JPM, or is this a case of loaded dice?

"stellar trading and investment banking results"

This is like bragging that you bought someone's car thousands below blue book value because the seller was desperate for cash to make their monthly ARM payment.

    Wall Street knows no shame.

I bet not having to pay the salaries of those 12,000 JPM/Chase/WaMu employees who were laid off at the end of the 1st Quarter may have had something to do with those profits.

In reply to Another Bank Makes Billions. Yay?
It's one thing if banks make money selling junk debt until they collapse. It's quite another if they just trade well. The material difference between these bank profits and THOSE bank profits is that the money was made doing what banks are supposed to do: advise on large transactions and trading assets. They didn't make money selling CDO's indiscriminately or offering credit to people who can't afford it. In fact, the biggest losers in those banks right now are consumer-facing industries. The big winners are investment banking and mortgage refinance, which is turning all those crappy adjustable mortgages into fixed-rate deals. If anything explodes, it will be the fact that all the injections of Federal money created artificially low interest rates and that the profits are being realized at long-term cost to these banks. Thing is, JPM and Goldman paid back taxpayers - they have nothing to be angry about, considering the Treasury (and by extension, you and me) profited on those TARP relationships.
