Okay, okay, I know this is all hilarious and whatnot but seriously, the number of parents who think that because it's labeled "juice" kids should be able to drink as much as they want is MIND-BOGGLING! Juicing and juicers are a scam, no one needs simple sugars delivered directly to their bloodstream in mass quantities except maybe someone in a diabetic coma. You can take in like an extra 4-500 calories a day like nothing. I applaud the comment below hoping Obama splits the FDA into their component food and drug parts - the misinformation regarding nutrition is epic. Thanks agribusiness lobby! I WILL drink milk until I'm 90! #fitness
@Hiroine Protagonist: Why, thank you. I think he should name you and I the czars on each respective agency, too. I'm ready for it. "Kick ass and take no prisoners" ready, that is. #fitness
Sure, like Mayor Bloomberg, blame the food. Food doesn't kill people. People kill people. They will have to pry my Double Whopper with Cheese from my cold dead hands! #fitness
No nuts and berries gathered in the forest. Got it. If I get lost in the woods, I'll keep looking until I find a vending machine with Snackwells and Baked Lays in it. #fitness
Or you can develop celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that, with the consumption of wheat/rye/barley/oats, causes your immune system to destroy your small intestine, along with your ability to absorb calories and nutrients. My husband calls it the "eat all the bread you want and still lose weight" diet; we figure we could sell it for millions if we could just get rid of the pesky diarrhea, flatulence, bloating and malnutrition part. #fitness
Your only hope in combating the menace of food is a weekly colonic administered by a scantily-clad Korean girl at that massage parlor in the strip mall down by the industrial park. #fitness
Try to go one week without eating anything that has corn syrup in it. This basically rules out most prepackaged food items available, including soup and salad dressings. Truthfully, we are a fat country because of government farm subsidies and the lure of convenience foods. #fitness
@pony_express: I always expect to lose weight on Passover because it's an entire week without corn syrup, bread, or pasta. Turns out sugar, matzah, and potatoes aren't that waistline-friendly either. #fitness
It sounds stupid, but I know plenty of seemingly intelligent people who guzzle VitaminWater on a regular basis because they think it's not only harmless, but healthy -- not realizing that you're only getting a few vitamins that you'd easily get by eating a slice of an orange along with heaps and heaps of sugar. #fitness
@El_Gato: The problem is nutritionism. Food manufacturers will tell you that their products contain this-or-that nutrient, but the fact that they come bundled with loads of unhealthy ingredients is de-emphasized in the marketing. #fitness
@Claire Buoyant: Yes, I agree entirely. VitaminWater for example could just as easily -- and perhaps more appropriately -- be called SugarWater. But the manufacturers for obvious reasons go with the more appealing, and extremely misleading, name. #fitness
@Claire Buoyant: My hope is that Obama dismantles the current FDA and creates 2 agencies: One for food safety and one for drug safety. The two together have been incestuous bedfellows far, far too long. #fitness
@Claire Buoyant: Nutritionism also conveys the impression that artificially-added chemicals are equivalent to the nutrients found in whole foods, which: no. The body handles actual food much more efficiently than it does, say, vitamin pills. #fitness
This is a HUGE surprise to me. I had always believed that obesity was caused by the fat fairies. I saw one once. I just thought it was a coincidence that it was hovering around a 3 lb. cheesecake. #fitness
@vitajex: I now have an image in my head of Kylie Minogue as the absinthe fairy, except wearing an outfit made of tasty cheese (or perhaps chocolate!) and a butter-filled laugh like that of Paula Deen. #fitness
@Pappenheim: Regular Coke is not a food nor beverage either. Except when you buy it in the glass bottle, then it is made with cane sugar not corn syrup, and actually tastes good. #fitness
@blix: Sadly, the yellow cap is only available around Passover. Unless you find it at another time, and that just means it's left over from Passover. #fitness
@blix: Here in California it's Mexican Coke (okay, so that doesn't sound right). It is bottled, not canned, and is made with real sugar. The difference is stunning, like how soda use to taste. I think Kosher Coke is the same? Except maybe blessed too? #fitness
@BullyTerrier: Yup! Corn syrup is on the forbidden list on Passover because of an Eastern-European Jewish custom called "Kitniyot" which makes grain-like things like rice and corn no good. (Literally the most irritating and ridiculous custom in my opinion, especially since Sefardi Jews are permitted these things.) Therefore, in order to make Coke kosher for Passover, they replace corn syrup with sugar and signify its kosher-for-Passover status with a yellow cap. It's pretty good, I must say. #fitness
