@The Count of Monte Fisto: I find him so hot I actually wouldn't care if his chin was surgically attached to his neck. Maybe he'd give an Old like me a chance if he was physically deformed.
i can't wait for the day when these two are merely a quaint pop-culture footnote who will only ever been seen again on 'I Love the 00s'. Oh time machine! Salvation be thy name!
@hhpeterson13: Didn't MM mention during his kick-A performance on Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy that his mother had been pregnant with him when SHE was a contestant on the original Jeopardy. I thought that was the best "fun fact to know and tell" of the entire show.
Travolta played a role originated by Divine. That's as gay as you can get. It's okay, John. Your place in cinema history is set. You have money and jets. Come out and enjoy the rest of your life.
I can't imagine losing your son to your faith, albeit I lost my parents to a cult, but I would imagine it is harder to lose your own child because of the teachings of your faith.
There has got to be a lot of questioning and soul searching, which is what I expect anyone to experience in his shoes.
I can't say that Jett's memory will win out, but my parents wavered and left the cult for 10 years. Then I grew up, and well- that's a whole long story.
I feel sad for Travolta, and I really hope that his heart recovers from his loss. With or without the cult.
But if he does leave the cult, I for one, would support his career in any way I can.
The rest of organized religion needs to take notes. The way to keep the flock in line is not guilt and fear of the wrath of a vengeful God, but good old-fashioned blackmail.
$cientology is a dangerous negative force and I totally agree that the backlash from attacking Travolta if he were to quit might hopefully expose that fact to a wider portion of the public. I don't have a leg to stand on as far as suggesting a preemptive strike revelation from John Travolta as I live my life in the closet, but it certainly would be a very brave move and at this point hopefully not career diminishing.
I would love to see the fallout if he did, but I do honestly feel bad that he lost a child. I agree with the others that say "do it John". People who still love you, will still love you.
The only way he could successfully break from this cult, is if he, at the same time he denounces them, describes in detail the things they will say about him to ruin him for leaving the church. Then, when those things start appearing in the press, everyone will know it's David Miscavige retaliating, and Scientology will be attacked even more. Anonymous should offer assistance, AFTER Travolta quits them.
honestly, there is no one on earth who would love more than to have travolta renounce sci, declare publicly that he is gay and leave his wife, but it won't happen and here is why:
1) this story is being reported by the daily mail. Stringing together a bunch of stuff which sounds plausible and related doesn't actually make it so. If it did, Intelligent Design would actually be science.
2) If Travolta did snap out of it, he would be "handled" in an attempt to bring him back in line. If he actually managed to break free of this...
3) He would have to make the choice to never see his daughter again. There is no indication his wife wants out, and as sci doctrine commands, once you're out, you never get to speak to those who are in again. I don't honestly believe he is as heartless as all that.
@SugitaAlcimede: I don't know- the court of public opinion would definitely be on Travolta's side when it came to his rights with his family. And Preston really is nothing without Travolta. She owes more to him than to her faith.
As far as him leaving the cult...it's highly unlikely, but it would be a blow that Scientology would have great difficulty overcoming. It would probably reverberate amongst their members-slowly, but surely.
They know that.
I would love to see Scientology 'handle' Travolta- for once allegations of using the audits against the members as blackmail would be out in the open for all to see-laying to rest any doubts of the true intentions of their 'rituals.'
Scientology is so creepy, not just that leader but the entire click. Their PR guy, son of an actress whose name I forget is the worst. I have seen that BBC reporter's tapes on them and they are scary. If they lose John I wonder if Will smith will have no choice but to admit being in. I also suspect Oprah was down with them before as was Usher but I believe they are both out now.
