    To the withered, old eyes of John McCain't, Jack Johnson is the only black man who NEEDS a pardon.


    You could put names into a hat and pick a black man currently incarcerated who needs a pardon.


    But they're still alive. Where's the "honor" in that?

    @Kirth: Agreed. One in three black men is currently in prison or on parole/probation. Where's the outcry over that? Or the other 2+ million of all colors of people locked up in our money-making warehouses?


    That said, Jack Johnson should be pardoned and I guess I'm happy McCain is fighting for it. PBS had the most amazing documentary on Jack a couple of years ago if anyone wants to learn more. It was long, like 4 hours, but great.

    Cut to a distant, grainy photo of my indifference in a snowy field next to a tree devoid of leaves, a farmhouse in the distance. Pan slowly toward my indifference until it takes up the width and height of the screen while the music swells, making viewers feel either warm, fuzzy and jingoisitc and they all run out and buy Hummers.


    PS: Not the cool $100,000 Hummers that soldiers and rich Corsicans drive, but rather the cheap-looking tacky ones driven by schmucks.
