This isn't the first time William Shatner was attacked by a dangerous beast. He was never able to fight off the hairy rodent that attached itself to the top of his head and remains there to this day.
these infamy-seeking dipshits all seem to ignore the fact that nobody remembers their names months (weeks? days?) after the attack.
i'm sure those closely affected by these despicable acts remember the murderers' names quite well, but the rest of us? not so much.
for instance, i can tell you the names of the columbine shitheads off the top of my head, but the assmunch who shot up an omaha department store a couple years ago? nope.
the fuckface at virginia tech? no, not him either.
in death, as in life: "who's that guy?" "i dunno, just some shitty loser."
@westward ho: I think that is usually the "rationale" for wanting to kill as many people as possible: to have you remember their name(s). With the Columbine kids, it seems to have worked.
@Jasper Reardon: that's what i'm saying. the trouble is, the dream of worldwide infamy rarely comes true.
i remember the names of the columbine guys because i'm from littleton and still live in colorado. i have connections to both victims and killers.
ask a random person in, say, LA, and they probably don't remember the names.
@westward ho: Pretty much what I was thinking. He'll get a few days of media coverage and then dissolve. I don't know if it's an issue of our attention spans or the prevalence of public violence, but in either case this sad fool will get the disinterest he deserves.
@Private Hangnail: you know, i would probably go with attention spans.
when columbine happened, it dominated news coverage for days. we heard the bad guys' names over and over.
now, this is just another headline in the rotation, and will likely be gone altogether by the end of next week.
@westward ho: The real irony about the Columbine killings is that the perpetrators wanted to be remembered as badass mass-murdering motherfuckers, whereas the erroneous image that's developed in the public mind is that they were poor, misunderstood, ostracized geeks. They were neither.
Here's what he said about his mother: Don't piss her off or she will be mad and vindictive for years. She actually thinks she's normal. Very dominant. Her way and only her way with no flexibility toward everyone in the household. A power and control thing.
And his brother: When he bullied or harassed someone, it was the other person who "deserved it".
And himself: I dress good, am clean-shaven, bathe, touch of cologne - yet 30 million women rejected me - over an 18 or 25-year period. That is how I see it.
Another vindictive, angry, resentful, bully who blames everyone else kills 3 people out of pure selfishness.
I just moved to Pennsylvania for grad school, from Harlem, NY. I've gone from fearing the crackheads to fearing the crackpots. This is the second incident in the state that makes me nervous. I truly adore PA, but it looks like it's becoming the Florida of the northeast.
Hah, what Georgieboy didn't anticipate is his ISP taking that bullshit down after a day, perhaps pressured by the PD, FBI or whoever.. as his site simply renders a "Service Unavailable" error.
Dick.
I actually got chills when he said he wasn't going to do the shooting in his workplace. Reading that this morning after a Google easily found it on Digg was horrible. The thought that he chickened out twice and did a practice run also boggles the mind. Sadly, I think the turning out of the lights meant that he didn't want to see his victims die, even though he was causing their deaths.
@Cynner: That is an interesting theory. Obviously, turning out the lights would hurt your kill ratio, so why do it? Maybe he didn't like the sight of blood.
@RunningLowOnPills: Because it would incite complete terror and panic in his intended victims. Perhaps squeamishness on his part has a role, but I think his hatred of women and wanting them to feel completely defenseless and helpless in the situation is a bigger reason.
December 29, 2008 Looking back over everything, what bothers me most is the inability to work towards whatever change I choose.
And this here is the summation of why he was so angry and frustrated. In essence: what his fucking problem was. He had moments of clarity in which he recognized the root of his frustration, and then would cloud over again to blame other people in his life, his neighbor who was around his age but the polar opposite of him who he envied, and women. All women. For their part in what he felt was their further undermining his already fragile self-worth.
He took his frustration towards himself towards other people who were innocents. He actively sought out that class during dates and times that it would be crowded. He worked harder on this final solution for attention than to actually change what it was in his life that made him feel this way.
Between this guy and the drunken, high mom who drove the car the opposite direction down the highway, I'm pretty much pissed at selfish, self-entitled people like these .
@The Real JR: You know, this would be a flawless analysis of his MO, if it weren't for his mental sickness situation. Selfishness can escalate into pathological narcissism and from there into sociopathy (is this a word?). At that point, you need to introduce meds and relentless, intense therapy to rescue these people. They can no longer rescue themselves.
@snugbug: I don't think you know what sociopathy is.
For one thing, it can't be treated with medication. Neither can pathological narcissism (Narcissistic Personality Disorder). The intense therapy might create a chip, but without a genuine commitment to change, it's a case of the lights being on with no one home.
@franzen: Since one of the key features of a sociopathic personality (clinically, ASPD or Antisocial personality disorder) is the the inability to "learn affectively," i.e. learn from life, they're pretty immune to this concept of "geniune commitment to change."
Also, anti-depressants, lithium, etc. are prescribed to manage depression, paranoia, or schizoid behaviors that typically afflict the sociopath.
I'm certainly no educated expert but I lived with a shrink for 8 years.
@snugbug: Yeah, no. You're not even close. Sociopathy, psychopathy, and APD are three different syndromes. None of them involve mood swings; comorbidity with bipolar is different from "mood swings being a part of the diagnosis of sociopath." You don't need mood swings for sociopathy; mood stabilizers are not going to help unless the person is experiencing mood swings due to a chemical imbalance.
Living with a shrink doesn't mean shit if you haven't read your Lykken, Hare, Million, etc. Or even a basic criminal profiling textbook (Turvey's is good). Seriously, "I lived with a shrink" is a Mad Lib of "Some of my best friends are gay."
@franzen: What's that? Sorry, can't hear you. Would you please repeat, but with more gratuitous ad-hominem attacks? Sociopath that I am, I tend to only be receptive to learning from my betters and to book tips when they are delivered by interlocutors in an unprovoked berating and offensive tone.
