He was one of the lights on "Laugh In," which overall was on the smug and painful side even at the time.

His performance in Nashville is pretty amazing. It's an extremely complex portrait of a power-hungry Southern conservative. I think the fact that his song is seen by some as an unironic "patriotic country song" is a testament to the sympathy he showed his character. By the end of the film it's clear that he's not a bad person, just deeply misguided. Maybe sort of like a smarter, Country Western version of Bush?

Every American (and any non-American looking for some insight into this crazy, crazy country) who has not seen that movie yet really needs to.

A highlights reel from Laugh-In, that kicks off, of course, with a poem . . . By Henry Gibson.

As a kid, I had no idea The Burbs was a comedy. It scared the shit out of me.

I worked at a restaurant in Malibu where Henry was a semi-regular. While working recently, I came upon him as he was grabbing a cigarette in a place where we didn't allow smoking. Knowing he knew I worked there, he got this panicked look on his face, but when I called him "Henry" he looked so relieved. I asked how he was doing, unaware of his illness. In that moment of being recognized, he never looked better...

    Rest in peace, Henry.

I will never not hate the "And Now He's Dead" tag.

    Rest in peace.

@DahlELama: I gotta say I've always like the and now he's dead, but doing it this time felt very weird. Wished i had a less cavelier option.

@Richard Rushfield: Oh, yeah, I don't blame you--to be perfectly honest, back when it was always applied to people I'd barely heard of, it didn't bother me either, but selfishly, now that I feel like I "know" more of these people in a way that's particularly meaningful to me, I hate seeing it on anybody.
