In reply to Adobe Joins Pre-Holiday Layoff Wave
This has nothing to do with piracy, which all software companies have to cope with and include in their cost of doing business.

This has EVERYTHING to do with Adobe spending 1.8 billion with a B on a questionable acquisition of a spyware company called Omniture. And of trying to push PDF and Flash [yes, Flash] on the US Gov't. And of the offshoring of more American jobs.

Motoko is correct from the 2000s on when Adobe killed off Pagemaker, Framemaker, and etc. Adobe ceased to be a software company and just became a 'merger & acquisition, technonology destruction company' --because MBAs & bean counters worry more about business ratios than innovation. #layoffs

It's been two years since I worked there and every single piece of news coming out of that ridiculous unaffordable building since then has been depressing.

Well, except for Pinch and Janet's 7-digit bonuses that exceed what is allowed by the company charter! Whee! #newyorktimes

Fuck them. That is even worse than shifting the jobs to underpaid interns, who at least had, you know, a step on the ladder, which is what newspapers did in the 80s, when they responded to declining circulation not by becoming better but by being more greedy and stupid, and the internet hadn't even been invented yet. #newyorktimes

In reply to Layoffs at Newsweek
You know, as much as I appreciated Newsweek's attempt to get out of the news-weekly format before it was beyond dead and buried (I mean, come on, other than Time's man of the year issue, who in the world has picked up a newsweekly since, um 1996?)

But their idea to make themselves more abbreviated economist was, well, really boring.

Anyway, sad for the 13 staffers. Though I'd hope anyone at a newsweekly would have their resumes very well polished and posted at the appropriate job sites. #newsweek

With less staffers, perhaps Current TV will have less of a chance of getting it's staff embroiled in international nuclear affairs? #media

With Drew Schutte, Conde has a smart, web-savvy guy running digital--finally. Let's hope that he, like Hearst, has a war chest. Let's also note that Conde Digital is not at 4TS and that, as surely as the luncheon seating plan, is a measure of status. #media

Adobe is just a horrible, horrible, insanely awful company.

It is the Microsoft of graphic design...stifling innovation and making life harder since the earliest years of personal computing. #layoffs
