again, i'm not even talking about this specific story because i don't know the specifics.
but i do know this: bloggers and internet journalists rarely, if ever, fact check even the simplest things with PR people. they post "news" and "information" without anyone calling them out on accountability.
publicists are ridiculed; print journalists can be fired if they write the wrong information, yet bloggers (who are the future of journalism) have little to no regulations or repercussions.
the fact is bloggers and internet reporters have such a responsibility to be the "first" with everything that they don't always get the facts straight.
i'm not talking about exposing big business here, i'm talking about fair give and take and that does not exist on the internet.
and lastly, there is no editorial independence so long as advertising exists.

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME, OH SAGE? DAMN THIS DISEMVOWELING, HOW CAN I EVER DECIPHER THIS LEARNED GENTLEMAN'S MESSAGE TO ME WHEN NICK DENTON IS CONSTANTLY INTERFERING WITH THE LINE OF COMMUNICATIONS?
Gawker is full of conts?
Like we don't finish our thoughts or something?
And now you're gone.

Oh, by the way, in the line "She can't possibly have met 'ethics,'" I believe "met" should read "meant."

That's how I interpreted the meaning of the sentence the first two times I read it. Finally, on the third try, I figured what she was trying to say.
I'm normally not a big fan of nitpicking over grammar, particularly in a private e-mail. But in this case, it really did make the core of her message fairly incomprehensible.

This sentence contains a very serious grammatical error which is hilarious coming from a former reporter.
Does anyone else see it?

without publicists, a lot of the information that blogs "report" on would not be available.
i don't know the specifics of this situation but i am so sick of bloggers tearing apart every pitch and typo that comes their way. who is policing the internet?
right now, we are all fucked. journalists, publicists, etc. why can't we all just try to get along?
