I don't go to festivals as I don't want to be around that many people. This is why I post on the internet. It is like having communal experience, but not really.
@kathotdog: i don't go to festivals because generally the ratio of bands/artists i want to see versus the ones that i'd rather rape my own cat than see is badly, badly out of my favor. it's fucking heartbreaking to look at, like, the all points west line up some years and be like "OH MY GOD so-and-so they almost never tour!" and then be like, "oh god do i want to spend $100 to have to navigate radiohead fans to see this person?"
Actually, everyone had a good time. The captions are just trying too hard to be pre-9/11 Vice or vintage period BSL. Pareene, you can do way better than that (and you often do). And you'd probably have enjoyed it to.
File this one under "sour grapes." Start saving up for next year.
@naboo: of course everyone who paid good money to go to a festival to see bands they like had a good time hanging out with their friends...? what the hell does that have to do with whether or not freak folk and chex towers are lame?
Every year I see the band line up for Coachella and I think, "Why can't we get anything like this on east coast" and then I see pictures like this and think, "I wouldn't go to this cluster fuck if you paid me".
it really is diverse and fun and it's hit and miss on the bands, but I'm enjoying the baseless generalizations and snap judgments nonetheless. I enjoy that sort of thing.
@Banjo-Sea Kitten: cool! and that said, i heard Morrissey was there? Wish i'd seen him. And Henry Rollins. Don't like his music, totally respect the man.
@Hydroceph: Sniffle, I didn't make it this year but yes Morrissey was on the roster. I've seen him at other venues and he's so worth it.
I can get plenty annoyed at these things but Coachella is one of the good, truly more diverse ones. Pixies reunion at sunset, I think 2004 or 2005-- *hella* good.
Oh, and poor Robert. Robert, Robert, Robert. You're making Mickey Rourke look like a role model for aging gracefully. Let's smooth down that hair and have a cuppa and chat for a while.

I saw Santogold is playing Bonnarroo and for a second thought "I REALLY NEED TO GET TO THAT."
Then I realized that would require spending a weekend surrounded by annoying Widespread Panic-loving hippie college students.
