I'm sorry Rumer Willis, but you're no Wallace Shawn. You just aren't."

I'm an idiot for asking, but that's a joke, right?

How many viewers of GG actually know that 1) Wallace Shawn is a playwright (in addition to being an actor) and 2) He was "Rex" from Toy Story (first movie from which I recognize that name...damn is Pixar good)?

Damn right Rumer isn't Wallace Shawn...the audience demographic will have a (slightly) higher chance of knowing who the hell she is.

Maybe the adults that guiltily admit to watching this beautiful-looking, questionably-written show would recognize him. (I'm in that group of "adults" who know the beautiful pool is tainted "meh" writing but came back to drink for both seasons...sigh.)

They should reserve the crawl for related information or non-news anecdotes... it's always odd when they throw something serious up there, and you only catch the last half "...hundreds dead, people living in or around the downtown area are advised to stay indoors, 'mass epidemic certain' says CDC spokesperson, stay tuned for more information."

What CNN has replaced it with it even worse: a white panel with black text (ehich is harsher to the eye) that either summarizes the story going on above it, or something even more benign.

@tunamelt: Crawls existed before 9/11, but they were rarely used. They were not a standard feature of every news broadcast like they are now. They were mostly relegated to financial news and *occasionally* to breaking news, especially when there was more than one major story happening at the same time, or there were a bunch of different angles to it.

On 9/11, they put the crawl on (justifiably) but then they just forgot to turn it off.

@Baroness: Tin foil hats. In fact, if you had a tin foil hat, it would have told you to pay no attention the crawl. It would have told you that the crawl was just something put out by your enemies to seduce you to the dark side.

In fact, given this whole recession we're going through, I think I'm going to start a tin foil hat business. Perhaps I'll advertise on CNN. Or, if I can't afford CNN, maybe I'll advertise on Gawker.

I love the crawl. Maybe it's just my ADD talking, but I like the crawl. I mean, thank god you get something to read while you listen. But those annoying vignette ads that pop up while you're watching something must go. If I wanted to watch "The Closer", that's what I'd be watching. All the network is doing by putting that ad up while I'm watching my show of choice is make me that much less likely to watch my show of choice.

@LilyBlue: I'm ADD and there's no way I can watch any of the news channels without losing my mind. The constant scrolling bothers me along with the images. One time I saw the ticker, the split screen, the time on the side of the monitor, the bug at the top left of the monitor and it made me want to lay down and take an aspirin.
