I'm intrigued that they're pulling the 'what monster would deny a little child his birthday cake' line, while conveniently overlooking the many things their little bundle of joy's namesake denied to other people. Birthday cake squabbles seem just a tad facetious.

Yo Richard, I went to college in the Lehigh Valley, and I really like how you're giving them some press. I also really like everything about the Lehigh Valley, only like 90 minutes away from the city, but like going back in time. Also, nice job giving props to "LHL" as if it were a credible news source. I worked at Kroger for a short while, holding down the deli and bakery at night. If someone had come in and asked for me to personalize that cake? I would have nodded and written something short and with a bevy of four letter words (and flowers).

If you are are on ShopRite's side cuz you hate fascism and neo-nazis, then you are missing the point. By not writing on the cake, ShopRite is basically saying that they make the decision as to what is acceptable and not acceptable in your homes. Do you really want to trust this to a supermarket? (Albeit one of the best supermarkets in the country)

true, true, it'd be worse if we were leaving our personal decisions up to safeway but this is still pretty bad!

@allyzay: Seems like none of the commentors understand that the First Amendment doesn't apply to private institutions (such as Shop Right). Also, this really isn't a First Ammendmet argument. Shoprite can refuse service to anyone for, *almost,* any reason. Yes, they can refuse under law to inscribe a cake based on name.
