The sad thing is that within living memory (at least, living memory of us middle-aged geezers) Newsday was the very model of what a smart and brave local paper could be: good writing, good investigative coverage of its market, and adequate coverage of the national and international news. It's a classic case of a newspaper company dumbing down a paper and finally destroying everything that connected it to its readers. #theinternet
@TheBusinessGuy: Well put -- though I am not ready to write off the paper as the only real source for Long Island related news (and features).
It's a shadow of what it once was but still better than nothing and I want it to survive. That's part of what makes the lame, unapproachable web site so disappointing, for what it says about management's judgment and level of talent and about the paper's financial future. #theinternet
@naugahydeinplainsight: Thanks for the compliment. And how awful is it that we have reached a point where a once-great paper's slogan can now be "It's Better Than Nothing." See, Newsday once wanted to be good because there was honor in a newspaper being good; they were better than they had to be. Now, they are like kosher food: often lousy and always expensive because they have a captive audience. #theinternet
@BettyCrocker: After the redesign, I stopped reading it. Blue and white font on a dark background? No thanks, I like my eyesight. Sad though, considering I freelance consulted for them. #theinternet
Hmmm. Five dollars a week to read a web site with white print on a black background that looks like it was laid out by a merry internet prankster. I think I’ll pass. #theinternet
@Nesbiteme: Thank god I'm not the only one who found their recent redesign offensive. Of course their news-lite approach to content means even if you can penetrate the visuals it's pretty hard to find anything to read. #theinternet
Why was he in the parking lot of a school? Because his parents still don't let him invite girls over to his basement apartment. guarantee this guy lives at home.
Teacher "claimed during his online conversations with the girl that he was just 17." A confused Beatles fan, he also suggested "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?"
I read this story yesterday. Actually, that's a police-provided top. He was in a state of undress when they found him. Can't you tell from his expression?

However, it's free for Optimum clients, so there's that.
Frankly, this rag has such a conservatard slant that it's like The Post with listings for pumpkin farms and tag sales. #theinternet
