Protesters in Ferguson, Mo. stood their ground against both police and looters Friday night, refusing to disperse despite orders and attempting to protect local businesses from what the Washington Post's Wesley Lowery—who took the above photo, of a local resident standing guard—described as "drunk kid" looters.

While Boston and the rest of the country rightfully focused on the myriad acts of kindness that succeeded yesterday's tragic marathon bombing, there was still plenty of nastiness to go around.

Looting was still a significant concern for many in New York City as Nor'easter Athena approached and hundreds of thousands remained without power days after Hurricane Sandy.

Scotland Yard said a 70-year-old man was the oldest person arrested during riots there. He was busted "in connection with theft from a shop in West Ealing. He was cautioned." Being London's Oldest Looter is quite an honor. [Independent]

Scotland Yard says that out of over 1,700 arrests made over the nationwide riots, around 600 people have been formally charged with crimes such as looting and disorder. Courts have stayed open overnight to handle the cases.

As chaos reigns in neighboring Tunisia, Libya's "Brother Leader" Muammar Qaddafi went on television to say he is "very pained" to see another strongman fall. He's probably also upset over reports of riots breaking out in Libya.
